Ok, these Abilities in ToB came as a completely suprise to me and I have no idea which ones will be really useful

So, what are some of the best Ablitities in ToB that are REALLY worth taking. Just say some of them and DON'T start arguing that which is the best etc.

Oh, my party includes Minsc, Jaheira, Keldorn, Imoen, Aeriel and me, mage/thief multi if that helps.

For fighters, Greater Whirlwind, Hardiness, Critical Strike and Greater Deathblow are my favorites.

For priests: Summon Deva, Energy blades, Globe of Blades are all good

For mages: All of the 10th level spells are good!

For thieves: the special traps and USE ANY ITEM abilities are awesome

I'm sure other people have their own favorites.

Indeed. Use Any Item kicks some serious booty, but it can also be abused to perform some serious cheese. "Good" uses for it: Your Mage/Thief, who has the ability to throw Fireballs as if they were spitwads, call down showers of meteors, and even stop time itself, now also has the amazing power of being able to wear a helmet. Cool! You can also do things like wear Jan's cool gloves (I think) and use weapons that were previously only available to Evil alignments.....etc, etc. The "Bad" uses for it are things like making a Kensai->Thief who can cheese and wear Full Plate, or a Thief who now, for no reason, can suddenly cast spells from scrolls while swinging Carsomyr.

My two cents
Dont take WAR CRY it sucks.
Put all in Greater whirlwind and Resit Magic.(If you dont ahve magic resistance items like Carsomyr)
For Mages - The TEN Level spells and them the EXTRA spell levels 6th 7th 8th

good luck
Ed

SixofSpades is dead on about the Use Any Item special ability. That special ability has the most potential for abuse of any special ability. The *cheese* factor for it is off the scale!

Smite is nice... it is quite effective against larger forces... the knock away ability was a lifesavor when fighting duergar swarm with Sarevok alone...

Whirlwinds are helpful, but not as good as the one smite you get... Hardiness is a staple, barbarian too... lol Use Any Item is ridiculously overpowered, and so are most of the thief traps. Still, other theif ones kinda stink, so just take those anyway...

LOL! Warcry was only used by my 'fearmonger'... a fun fighter. He got rockhelm, ravager and warcries... EVERYBODY was scared of him... Oh, and used terror rod too. lol really a weak character, but would make mincemeat of an army of gobos and orcs.

Resist Magic isn't all that great. ASSASSINATE is TRULY evil when you have a thief or assassin with lots of attacks per round (like 5 without haste... can be done...)... Then, you get LOTS of killing power...I did max damage (around 500 or something. No, less than that...) with my Kensai/Thief using staff of ram, a critical hit and an assassination. VERY funny.

GREATER WHIRLWIND!

GREATER WHIRLWIND!

How can we argue? This ability can take down dragons easily if your character hits well. It is just sooooooooooooooooooooooo useful. Normal whirlwind can be used for the cheapos, like the swarms of shadow creatures etc.

Smite is better for dragon whuping IMO, but thats just IMO... Of course, you need a dispel weapon then. Whirlwind and Smite work out about the same I think (for damage), but, for one, you also knock them away and stun them. This is an invaluable thing. TRUST ME! Sarevok used this far more GW. He also rested a bit.... Wish you could get more than 1...
