Arright.... It's getting to the bash-me-own-skull-in stage now. I bought it... and it WON'T WORK. I install it, fine, great, I try to start the game, it gives me the little "ToB Starting Screen" on the desktop.... and then it never starts. It just freezes. And I have to restart my computer. Help, help me please you wonderful game-knowledge-filled type people.
(Was told to post this in this forum instead of that other one... better work)

OK, since you asked so nicely, ill try and help
but not much, since you havent posted details of your computer or anything. I assume you had SoA working. Did you have any unofficial patches installed? Can you still play SoA? Do other games still work. if they dont its either hardware or drivers. or OS. or a Virus.

SoA works without ToB installed... but not after installing ToB. It works again if I reinstall. Everything else works fine... as for unofficial patches - could it be the xp cap remover? I'm not sure if I've tried it without having that on...
I've also not tried it since getting my new hard drive - due to pheare of the reinstall. It takes ages and I'm lazy.

Without more details on your computer im still confused as to what can be causing your problem. I doubt a hard-drive would fix it anyway. if SoA is working it rules out hardware/drive incompatabilities. a virus capable of causing this would hvae shown itself in other ways by now. im left with the un-official patches. Id guess that the Xp-Cap remover is to blame, get rid of it and you should(might) be fine.

No... it's still not working. Though now the problem's changed. I completely reinstalled SoA, and then installed ToB without doing ANYTHING to SoA... and NOW it gives me an Illegal Operation message when I try to start the game.
BGMAIN caused an exception 10H in module OLEAUT32.DLL at 015f:653bb045. Registers: EAX=00030000 CS=015f EIP=653bb045 EFLGS=00010206 EBX=65340000 SS=0167 ESP=00e1f478 EBP=00e1f480 ECX=00010000 DS=0167 ESI=00000001 FS=2337 EDX=653b6c13 ES=0167 EDI=00000000 GS=0000 Bytes at CS:EIP: 9b d9 7d fc 8b 45 fc 50 e8 4e 00 00 00 8b 4d 0c Stack dump: 00000001 00010000 00e1f68c 653bb094 00010000 00030000 653b6b8f 00010000 00030000 653b3c74 653b5b2b 653b3aea 653b3bc1 65340000 00000001 00000000 That sort of thing. Though the .DLL file and the specifics of it vary. It's been doing it for ages... and I've reinstalled Windows at leastonce since then. Doubt it's a windows thing though - everything else works... Leaving me thinking there might be a fault on the CD ![]() I've sent all this stuff to many-a-tech support email address though. I'll see what they think. Maybe I'll...... "borrow" my dad's laptop and try it on that.

Well, i would guess that somwhere you have a driver problem or a conflict of some kind. i cant remember the memory thresholds off-hand, but I am mostly sure it isnt in the video modules, since they ar not in that memory region.
If that dosent help post the specific of your computer (CPU, M/b etc, and most importantly OS) and im sure someone will suddenly recognize this error. ON a paranoid note - please tell me you arent using Windows 95 OEM 2.5 or 3.0. i woudnt think any of the Win95 series would work acceptably, but these two have... issues... with re-installing.
