Just part of my "census".

Ok guys, what do you think about wands?

i)Do you use them? I've asked this, although it seems a stupid question, I know people like Lemernis dont use wands.

ii)Which wands do like? Which wands do you dislike?

iii)Do you accumulate alot of them?

,,
i)I use wands, but I dont use them as often as maybe I could/should. I think some have definate advantages, but I think some have big disadvantages.Overall, I definately like them more than I dislike them, but i guess it boils down to me preferring to use my Mage's spells rather than wands.

ii)I like:

Wand of Monster Summoning
Wand of Polymorphing
Wand of Lightning
Wand of Paralysation
Wand of Frost
Wand of Magic Missiles (Let fighters use them)

I dislike:

Wand of Fire (Is this it's exact name?I cant remember!!)

iii)I always seem to have alot of wands, on my current game (im just coming to start Durlag's basement, I have one character full of wands in her Inventory. And up to this point in the game, I haven't used up all the charges on one wand!!

I often use wands and find them very useful. The only ones I don't like are the wands of magic missle and lightning. These two hardly do any damage, and although they are pretty good when you're first starting out they can be quite helpful, but later on they just become a waste of space. I love the wand of fire, you can take out dozens of creatures at a time with that one. I think my mage managed to kill thirty gnolls in the gnoll stronghold with one blast of this wand. Want of frost is very good as well, but more so against a single, strong enemy, as it gives a concentrated blast and does a lot of damage.

But the wand of fire can hurt your mage too much and too often! Wand of missiles can be used by fighters!

I don't use wands anymore. Used them for some of my early games, but they are too powerful so it takes away the challenge. I get my Mage to do the magic properly - no being lazy for me. Have to admit the Wand of Heavens is very good, it gives the Cleric a really nice attacking option. By the way there are far fewer wands in IWD, they got the balance better in that game. If you want to use a Wand, give it to your Bard.

Well, as long as your mage stands back far enough, there should be no problem

And I don't like the wand of magic missiles because it only does 2-5 damage a go

I did mean that the Wand Of Missiles is good for fighters at the start of the game, as they struggle to hit enemys with a half-decent armour class!

I sell most of them 'cause they give you good cash, I only keep wands of - Fire, Monster Summoning, Heavens, and Frost.
Best thing about wand of fire is Agganazzers Scorcher, it won't hurt your party members if it touches them and it does the same damage as a fireball (albeit to one enemy rather than an area effect).
I agree with Midget Gems in that they do unbalance the game (especially monster summoning) so I only use them when I'm too lazy to figure out a strategy for a big fight.
BTW why don't enemies use wands or scrolls? Or do they?
