HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!
I cannot beat the final 'gaurdians' around the portal. They all seem to be magic resistant, they kill all of my summoned creatures (mordinkens sword(s), demons, devas, planetars...) almost instantly and then go on to mutilate my blokes. The best I have done so far (in 4 reloads) is kill 1! of them. Any advice is accepted and will be tried ![]() ------------------ ![]() Never try to teach a pig to sing; it wastes your time and it annoys the pig I've got to admit it's getting better, it's getting better all the time |

The way i did it was i summoned a planatar 2 harkashars and a Greater elemental summoning creature. Now that you know where the creatures are going to spawn its not to hard first you leave a planatar and a greater elemental summoning up to one opponent leave the two harkashars agianst one other then match your fighters one on one with the rest remaining have your mages ready with spells like sun ray and secret word breach ext one the battle starts you should be able to easly take them down easly also rememeber the spell dispel magic is an incredble spell and if you have keldorn then your in good shape. Once the battle starts have all your warriors go into whirlwind or greater whirlwing or whatever there highest lvl attack is and make sure everyone is hasted once that happens go for it and you should win easly the planatar and the greater elemental summoning should make quick work of the first creature they fight while the harkashars are great for saving timewhile your other warriors are busy fighting the the harder opponents. This should work agianst any enemys you fight there

I think my tactics will be called "cheesy", but... who cares?
![]() So. I was just desperate when met those final guardians (it was in SoA, so my party wasn't too high leveled). They killed us time after time. That's why we did our best to kill one of them and then retrieted to another area (one of those where tests for Heart Key had carried on). There we used our healing potions and cleric's help and went back to enemies - to kill another one of them ![]() Of course, we did monster summoning all the way, and when the last of those guardians was dead my spellcasters were completely out of spells ![]() ------------------ Tanda, with best regards from Guild of Assassins |

I just did this battle solo with my sorcerer, and it is a very tough battle. What I did was summon up a Planetar, and a couple of Mordenkainen's swords (improved hasted), along with some Similacrums. My Sorcerer had Chain Contengency set to See Enemy: Lower Resist, Lower Resist, Greater Malison; and then Spell Trigger of the same. Then the Similacrums cast a few Abi Dalzim's Horrid Wilting which will take care of two, almost instantly(The Hive Mother and the dual-wielding fighter are the toughest by far). My summons and similacrums die off less than a round later, but I run to one of the alcove and begin summoning again, then take out another one. Most have to be Breached in order to hit as well...
The real trick is to take them down one at a time, and give that one everything you've got. It is harder with a full group, as they always go after your weakest party members first... ------------------ ![]() "This place will be your tomb." Just had the same problem! Remember to cast pierce magic, breach, pierce shield on the Marilith and the ?? (I think its a succubus) on the left, as especially the Marilith cast Protection From Magical Weapons. Get rid of them, have your planetar (or deva) go behind the Hive mother and your melee fighters and Mordekainens swords should go after the other Monsters. Perhaps a Abi Dahlzims Horror Whilting works good as well. You know shouldn't have any problems with these. By the way these guardians are a good way to train different tactics...

A bit cheesy but if you know where they are going to spawn have your thief lay traps (the new "feats" ones) there. Instant damage, and a lot of it.

this fight can be pretty rough, but magic-use is the key (as it seems to be in most fights in ToB.) make sure to have each party member as magically beefed-up as possible. have all your mages have spell triggers, spell sequencers and chain contingencies. have them firing off lower resistances and pierce magics, pierce shields, breach, warding whips, ruby rays, etc. etc. release all your most powerful summoning spells: devas, planetars, nishruus, mordenkainen's swords, etc. once their spell defenses are breached, focus on your most damaging magics (dragon's breath, comets, delayed blast fireballs, chain lightnings, abi dazim's, etc.) make sure everyone has plenty healing potions and keep smashing them until they fall.

i see im a bit late, but for others which read later.. what i did was used imprisonment on the marileth and the hive mother, and freedom on them after the battle. i found for my party these were the hardest, so i got rid of them till later.
