BG patch path

As inevitable as death & taxes, I suppose...

I just bought BG+TOSC which came in a boxed set - there are 5 CDs for BG and one more for TOSC. I have installed both.

As far as I can make it out, the patching path should be:

- install BG
- install TOSC
- apply latest TOSC patch (5152 or something like that).

No need to apply latest BG patch as TOSC will update BG when installed, right?

What are the other patches I need? I think I have the European version (I see a "not for sale in US and Canada" line on the box). And what's the DX8 patch all about?

Oh, 1 more question - any way to run BG/TOSC at a resolution higher than 640 x 480 (say, 800 x 600)?

Yes, you have the order right. Try the following for patches:

The dx8 patch is for online multiplayer gaming.

Nope, you cannot play BG1/Tales in 800x600. But frankly I'm not sure what is so great about that higher resolution. It doesnt make the graphics textures that much smoother, and it significantly shrinks the character animations. Play BG1/Tales in 32 color depth for the best graphic appearance--the colors are very rich, looks great. (Hehe, Hey, I just "leveled up"--now I'm an Elminster, lol!)

Thanks for the reply. I asked about the higher res 'cos 640 x 480 on a 17" monitor looks grainy. But you're right about 32-bit - the colours definitely look richer.
