On the Black Isle Developer Boards
Thursday, June 21, 2001, 17:29 | MageDragon
From the Black Isle Developer message boards.

Throne of Bhaal
Kevin Martens (Lead Designer)
X appears busy during gameplay: The 'X appears busy' line was added in as a default line for when you try to talk to someone who is in the middle of a scripted situation or has no valid starting conditions for the current game state. We haven't found any problems with this.

For those of you who are having problems, do you have any 3rd party fixes, patches, or changes installed? Your talk tables may have been overwritten by a 3rd party patch. This would definitely screw up the dlg all over the game. Please respond and let me know what the situation is. We can't, currently, repeat the bug.

Thanks for the system specs, everyone!

If you can get this to happen with a character repeatedly, please zip up a savegame standing next to the character and send it to us with details about which character it is. Address is bginfo@bioware.com

Please also send your system specs with the savegame including install options (min, standard full) for both SOA and TOB, service pack info, direct x versions, programs running in the background, and so forth. Thanks again! Hopefully we'll be able to get this to happen and debug it.

For people who have time or would like to experiment, please try with direct x 7 installed. I believe that it is included with BGII. Let me know, thanks!

Playing under Windows 2000: All supported OS are tested by many different people on numerous hardware configurations from the beginning of the project. However, we don't officially support Windows 2000. We do have some installs here but we cannot find any errors currently with Windows 2000 and with our gold build.

If you're having problems, we will look into it but the only safe way to play the game is with the supported OS - Win95/98.
Nathan Plewes (Line Producer)
Contacting BioWare for help: If your having problems email bginfo@bioware.com with a list of your system specs (OS, DX version, video card, drivers, etc.) and we'll be happy to try to help you.

Alan Miranda Interview
Thursday, June 21, 2001, 11:36 | MageDragon
TFH Gaming has posted an interview with Alan Miranda, producer for Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal.
TFH Gaming: ToB promises a final resolution to the Child of Bhaal saga. Can players expect the NPCs to receive resolutions to their stories as well, even if they're not involved in the romantic subplots? (Does Minsc retire and start a quiet reflective monastery where fellow berserkers will discover peace in caring for their own pet hamsters?)

Alan Miranda: A pet hamster monastery?! Hehe…I wouldn't put it past Minsc. Of course it might be difficult for him when Jan Jansen steals Boo in ToB. But the answer to your question is yes. Since we were tying up what happens to you, the main character, we also felt it essential to disclose what happens to all of your companions. All NPCs receive resolutions to their stories and glimpses of what lies ahead for them. It's so…emotional ! J

Throne of Bhaal First Impressions
Thursday, June 21, 2001, 11:35 | MageDragon
RPGVault has posted a first impressions of Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal.
Throne of Bhaal comes on one CD accompanied by an informative manual that includes about 40 pages of game information plus credits, the warranty statement et al. Being an expansion pack, it requires that the original game, Shadows of Amn, already be installed on your hard drive. There are two install sizes, but the exact size depends on whether you have done a Full, Recommended or Minimum install of Shadows of Amn. For example, you'll need at least 560 MB of space if you've done a Minimum install, or at least 325 MB otherwise. Since BioWare's workhorse Infinity engine is under the hood, the system specs are very accessible, a factor that has undoubtedly contributed to the tremendous success of previous titles. A PII 233 with 32 MB of RAM is the minimum, with a PII 400 and 64 MB recommended.

I am kinda worried about dropping Minsc, now that I found out that he will have an end, just like everyone else. He has been with me from the beginning. But I just had to take Sarevok...

That just gives you an excuse to play through again...

I'm in a similar position. I want to dump Aerie for Anomen (who I've never played)...but I'm in the romance. I want to dump Jaheira for Vic, but I want to see the new Druid abilities. I dropped Minsc for Saverok...good riddance. I want to dump Nalia for Edwin, but I've got an awful lot invested in her.

I'd also like to drop Imoen for another fighter or Jan, but I think that she's going to be a larger part of the plotline very soon...

Now where did I leave that doughnut?!
