Hi all

I was just wondering if there is any particular order that i should do the adventures in. Ive made attempts at the game before but i just get so many quests i dont know where to go. Ive managed to get out of the starting place and into Baldurs Gate but when i hit questing time i just end up wandering around aimlessly. Also is it better to make a custom party or to build one character and have all the others join you?
Is there a class that is easier to play?

Thanks

Are you currently playing Baldur's Gate 1, or Baldur's Gate 2?

Despite the title, the city you have entered is not Baldur's Gate, but Athkhala, a city in the Amn region, south of Baldur's Gate.

As for quest order, there is no strict rule really, other than that you should try to complete the timed quests first. Timed quest are few, and you will know it is timed if they state a specific time limit for that quest.

Read your journal to keep track of your quests.

If you are new to the AD&D system of playing, a warrior-type class will be easier to handle. Less stress on what spells to use.

The NPCs given to you throughout the game are competent enough to aid you in completing the game. More importantly, they provide some nice banter to liven the gaming experience.

As Dundee said, there's no order, but pay attention if somebody gives you a specific time limit. A more important matter is which quests are the most dangerous for low-level parties, usually because they're "point-of-no-return" quests, meaning that once you enter, you can't leave until you've beaten the area, so if you have trouble beating the place, you're pretty much screwed.

A list of things that you probably shouldn't attempt until late in the game:
Do not tickle sleeping dragons.
It's generally inadvisable to hurl yourself into the Pit of the Faithless.
Don't take a blue, spiky gemstone into a theater.
I would avoid the Eastern Tunnels if I were you.
And don't use the Planar Key.

Both parties will get the job done. A custom-made party will most likely have better (munchkin) stats, which is good for beginning players, and will almost certainly avoid BG2's shocking lack of good Thieves. On the other hand, it's the great banter and interaction between your party members that make up a big chunk of why BG2 is so fun. On the other hand, part of that very interaction includes a number of NPCs that simply will not work with other NPCs, and if you put them in a party together, there's going to be trouble. Big trouble. Like mutiny. So try to avoid mixing people of different alignments, as Good does not tend to get along well with Evil.

Ah, the old story about how difficult it is to create roleplaying challenges for Warrior-type characters:
Dungeon Master- "A problem has arisen."
Fighter- "I hit it until it isn't a problem any more."
Dungeon Master- (rolls D20) "The problem has gone away."

On your first game, you should probably be a Fighter, Ranger, Paladin, Barbarian, or possibly Cleric. Don't be any form of Mage until you've beaten the game at least once, and don't play a Sorcerer until you've played as a Mage. The array of Wizard protection and counter-protection spells will just knock you silly.
