In a game where there are two or more player created characters, is it better to...

...make the weakest, one more likely to die the Main Protagonist, or the one least likely to die?

I ask this simply because of the value that you as a player, would place on the weaker one if he/she/it wasn't the Protagonist. Would you care as much if he/she/it got killed, even replace him/her/it?

How do you value your party members?

I'm not sure what you're asking.

I try to make all of my characters as hard to kill as possible.

Take a mage over a tank, for example. Mage Protagonist because mages fall faster than tanks (usually), or put the tank as protaganist (because generally, they last longer ).

But I get your point.

I'm honestly pretty indifferent towards the subject. Although thinking about it, I usually make the party in the order that I would put them in formation - ie in order tanks->clerics->thiefs->mages. So the main character ends up being some sort of warrior variant.

But then again, part of my thing is I almost never raise dead in game - I reload far far too often.

I have it exactly backwards

Though, not for the reasons you think. Quite personally, I think the mage is hte most interesting class, with fighter being at the "bottom of the food chain" as it were.

My tanks die more often than my mages/sorcerers, because the job of the tank is to attract enemy attension and take the damage. My mages stand well back out of the damage zone and never mellee.

Which class I put in the first slot would depend purely on what stronghold I wanted.

I usually have my protagonist as a part-warrior, but I still prefer him/her to be as best protected as possible.

I've had a lot of fun as a Wild Mage and Sorcerer in the past, but I always have a lot of tanks in the party as protection.

...and if that's not a selling point, what is?
