lol, I have now finished SOA about 5 times, and yet never finished TOB, I have said I would a million times, but hopefully this time I will, anyways, my question has nothing to do with class, or wether TOB is worth it..
I was actually wondering if going through Irenicus's dungeon is worth it... Strange as it may be and even though I have started MANY BGII games, I have never played through the dungeon, the first time I played the game I got a fair way, but even then I got bored Anyway's I know the story pretty damn well, so if you think that the only reason to go through the dungeon is because of that then I won't bother, but I have only gotten a little past Khalid's body and the Mephits...Well at least that's how far I remember, I may have gone further, is the Otyog(sp?) past that? So erm.. yeah, the main reason is that for some reason, whenever I start a new game, the dungeon always makes me quit, I sometimes get to the dwarf's or the driad's and then just think "man this is boring" and before you know it, im being told that Boo will miss me ![]() Oh, and you can blame Lennon for this, he was the one that started me off on Dungeon be gone ![]() |

But.... once you hit Khalid's body, you're almost done.
The dungeon seamlessly ties together BG1 and SoA. It sets up your character's past and the music and lighting eerily set the a gruesome and bleak scene. It's rich in graphic detail and there are many hidden things to discover. So to answer your question, no, it's really not worth it. Not to me anymore, at least. To you, it probably is, as you've only finished it once. But in general... well... why do you think they invented Dungeon-Be-Gone in the first place?

DungeonBeGone was made for those people who have played through Chateau Irenicus so many tmies that they could do it in their sleep.
The begining dungeon was a great deal of fun the first time i played through it, all the content was new and i didnt know what was going to happen. I would encourage anyone to go through the begining dungeon at least once. DungeonBeGone does not give you the full amount of experience that you would have recieved had you gone through the dungeon. I believe it also doesnt give you some fo the items that you would have got. If at any time you get bored of Irenicus' Dungeon, simply save your game and go play with a party that is not in the dungeon. If you have made it past the mephits, then you are only 2 rooms away from freedom to begin with. you have nearly finished it, so you may as well go through with it.

Since you think it's so boring, maybe you should add a little challenge to the dungeon while you're at it. I've heard about improved Illyich for example. Never tried it myself, but could be fun.

From a pure item collection standpoint, the Goblins and a couple of bookshelves can randomly drop scrolls in the level 6-8 range: people have found Improved Mantle, Mordenkainen's Sword, Protection from Magic Weapons, and other goodies before even making it to Athkatla.
You can also try something different using the NPC's to shake things up a little. One thing I'll do sometimes is have Minsc wear leather armor and go in stealth mode with a longbow, and pick off goblins one by one at extreme range before they can get a shot off at him. Not as exciting as fighting vampires, liches, and dragons, but hey, it's just the opening dungeon. (And actually there IS a vampire to fight if you want, and killing her before she can vanish is a nice little challenge.)

It doesn't really take that long to do. YOu can add DBG and if you get bored just talk to him and port out. (YOu can chose when to talk to him can't you? I always skip it now so i can't remember clearly)

If you've never finished it you should do it.
Might not be worth it for how far you've come. If you want it to be more challengeing, don't rest, makes the whole escape that little bit more tense.

finishing the dungeon is worth it if you wanna start out more prepared and with more cash, you get some pretty cool stuff specially around the private quarters of irenicus...before the nyphs..or the dryads i cant remember.

DBG is a godsend... You get all of the items, (though not the randomly dropped ones) experience, and cash to boot! plus you don't have to go through the dungeon!
Either way, some of the dialouge is funny, and you still get the chance to pick up Yoshimo. The only plus side to going through Irenicus' dungeon would be the high level spells. (I scribed Mordenkainens Sword very early in the game) |
