I'm soloing a fighter/thief. Trouble with a pure fighter is it's just hack'n'slash with not too much diversity. I didn't want to use offensive magic, just protective magical items. At least with the thief abilities you can scout, detect and disarm traps. Sounds like a tall order going with a fighter alone...that's not to say it can't be done. Good luck.

It's definitely been done, although I haven't done so myself. I've read of players running over traps with the boots of speed. (I think you're even more speeded up with a potion of speed and boots of speed.)

It sounds like a lot of work to solo... The game gets wearying enough with six characters and a wide distribution of skills. I'm not sure how much fun it would be to just chop your way to the end (btw, isn't that basically what Diablo is?). I mean, I like finding clever resolutions to problems, and soloing certainly presents a lot of challenges that call for creative solutions. But the constant traveling to ID and sell stuff, etc., would bother me, I think. Also, one of the things I like most about the game is coordinating attacks against large numbers of enemies.

Having said that, I may try it eventually with a mage which I'm sure is brick hard to do. (Maybe cleric-mage would be smarter).

I totally agree with you Lemernis. But you can also consider it this way: I requires a lot of planning/considering what items to take/what armour and how to approach enemies and stuff before being able to finish the game solo, that's an interisting type of play too...not?

I have talked to people on the old Developers Corner (original Interplay/Baldur's Gate messageboard-now closed ) who have played the full game solo with every possible character. Personally I have only did it with a fighter/thief and a Fighter/mage/thief, Of which the latter was the most fun (mirror image rules!)

Im accually soloing a paladin at the moment, and it is really fun.
Sure, some traps may be pretty annoing and so, but otherwise it is really easy. I can really recomend it. Great fun and all that. Just wait untill i get boots of speed, ill be unstoppable.

But I wouldn't do it myself. What fun would it be?

If you was alive in the Realms, you wouldn't travel alone!! What fun would it be? Can you imagine Frodo travelling without Sam?

No fun I tell ye, bah.

But good luck anyway.
