I've come across quite a few rings and gems, none of which are magical, and I'm wondering if I should be keeping them or should I just sell them?

Also, I found a 'Protection from Fire' scroll and it was unlike other scrolls that I've found; the parchment has a 'green' image on it, as opposed to the 'white' or 'red' images that are on other scrolls. Anyway, I tried to 'Write Magic' with this scroll but I am unable to. What is the reason for this? Also, what do the different colors on the scrolls represent?

BTW, I'm loving this game. I was up until 2:30 am again last night. My wife wants to kill me! But she can't, because I've got a 'Morning Star +2'---she fears me!

You can sell most of the gems. I'd hold onto at least one Rogue Stone. Also, you can easily sell all of the non-magical rings and necklaces. BTW, it's a good idea to get at least a couple of gem bags to hold your gems, etc. since there will be many times when you do not want to waste inventory space on this stuff, but there's no store nearby to sell it off. At least 2 gem bags are very useful to have for this purpose.

Those "green" protection scrolls can be cast by any character, not just spellcasters. That's what makes them special.

Might want to get a couple scroll cases for the same reason as the gem bags.

The green image means it's a protection spell. You can't memorize it, but you can put it in your handy-dandy quick items slot, and use it when you need it.

Oh, and red means offensive, white means defensive(I think).

I think blue means defensive, and white is Effect.

Gem Bags can be bought practically anywhere. I believe that practically every merchant has one.

Scroll Cases are much rarer. I think that the scroll lady in the Adventurer's Mart has one, I've been told that Bernard (before Copper quest) has one, I'm pretty sure that the fence in the second story of Gaelan's house has one too.

Oh, and the scroll merchant in Waukeen's Promenade has one too.

Actualy, you need INT 10 to cast them IIRC. Or some INT limit anyway.

Oh, and ID em first, there are a lot of cursed ones about.

Red: offensive eg magic missile
Blue: defensive eg stone skin
White: info/other neutral effect eg know alignment/teleport field (no direct damage/defense, but effects can be benificial depending on application)

Lets not forget bags of holding, for all the other items, when they appear.

Gem Bags and Scroll cases aren't available everywhere. I find my Gem Bag with a merchant in the Umar Hills and a shady lady merchant in the Bridge district. Scroll cases are the lady in the back of the adventurers Mart and the other location in the promenade. Granted, when you clear Trademeet there are some really interesting items that suddenly appear there.
