I've been playing TDD/TOB as a Marksman and I've come across quite a few situations where "weapon has no effect". This is kind of bad for me, since can only have 2 slots in one other weapon type. This is even using +2 arrows.

Creatures so far that I didn't expect this from: Frost Giants, Ettins and Cyclops. Why would they be immune to piercing? Is there a way to defeat this immunity? Or do they really need >+2 to damage?

I find it entertaining that I can't damage a Frost Giant with a bow, but yesterday, out of desperation, I tried a Heartshot (save vs death) and killed a very large dragon (after using lower resistance then greater malison.) One shot took him out, after he ripped through my party and we had only done 10 points of damage. It was an oddly lucky experience.

Proficiency slots don't matter THAT much. You can still use a weapon you're not proficient in, you're just not as good with it (not trained). Always carry a blunt weapon so you can hit clay golums.

Here is a guide to creatures against which piercing works especially well:

Know the difference between Piercing and Missile: Piercing applies to certain melee weapons (Dagger, Short Sword, Spear), and Missile applies to such projectiles as Arrows, Bullets, and Darts.

Mustard Jellies and Clay Golems are the only creatures I know of who cannot be harmed by Piercing weapons. Creatures that are immune to Missile damage are slightly more common: Otyughs and Ettins are two of them.

IIRC you can by arrows that do more than just missle damage ie. arrows of blugeoning and the like i think you can by them in any fletching shop in TOB.Im not sure if this will work but the aditional types of damage should hurt the creature you are trying to attack.

From what ive gleaned from your post you have a party, well then it doesnt really matter that you archer cant hit enemies im sure one of the people in your party can (unless your running an all missle party)

I should know the difference btwn missle and piercing but I always mix it up because, well...arrows really pierce, don't they?

Yup, I always have a blunt weapon for golems and I do swich to my longsword on the giants, it's just the Marksman isn't really tanky...low constitution, low hp's for a fighter and high AC with no armor allowed. THACO is inhuman with arrows, not so great with the sword. I'm out of the Ettin and giant area for now, but I'll get acid arrows in the future.

Yes, arrows are SUPPOSED to cause piercing damage....but Bioware didn't see fit to do that for some god forsaken reason.

Maybe because that would've made arrows too powerful, I'm not sure.
