Random drops from gobbies in Chateau Irenicus

Just running through the Chateau... again! Killing gobbies, disarming traps, the usual. Then on the last group of goblins (second floor, near the room with the Belt of Bluntness) after killing them, i looted, expecting to find the usual 2 bows, some arrows, 4 axes, some gold and maybe a gem or 2. In addition t all that, one of the goblin was carrying a short bow+2!!

Now the best loot ive ever found on goblins would be a spell scroll, mislead i think it was. I have NEVER found a magical weapon, or even a weapon that isnt an axe/bow. I know i have left the Chateau with high level spell scrolls before (i found mordies sword once i think) but i found it odd, that after playing through the Chateau easily a hundred times i have never before seen loot like this.

Has anyone else had this happen to them?

Just FYI, i have parts of tactics installed (not the improved Chateau or whatever its called) and the usual patches/fixpacks. No other mods.

The goblins loot is determined randomly. I don't know how many items are included in the parameters or how the parameters are manipulated to give a greater chance of getting lower powered items, but I have actually heard of someone getting the +2 bow before.

However, as you found out yourself, the selection of loot is "weighted", so you have to play through the game about 100 times before it happens.

A spear +3? I thought you could only get that kind of weapons in Throne of Bhaal?

Not really, the generic spear +3 IS to be found in SoA. I thought some Sahuagin carried those, the big bosses or something.

I _think_ that the earliest you can usually find a spear +3 is underneath Chateau No. 2 (less glamorous than no. 1). JrKASperov: are you thinking of the Impaler? It's +3.

And the fact that the Tactics Sahuagin carry those +3 spears... ALL of em!

As long as I can still get my Impaler, I'm happy. That's one nasty spear.

I've been meaning to give Tactics a whirl (well, maybe not the dragons based on what I've read). I'm finding that increasing the difficulty level in the normal game doesn't really make it any more challenging.

IIRC there are two +3 spears in the Guarded Compound.

hmm - maybe my memory is playing tricks - i've had a look at the pictures in itemsmart and it might have been a staff now i think about it - maybe it was +2

i knew there was a reason i'd never played a bard . . .
