Re:

Hello. I have a question about this Multi-Install Tool.

I currently have 1 installation of BG2/SOA/TOB. It is filled with several mods (Baldurdash, TDD, Tactics, Ease Of Use, Item Upgrade).

If I use this M-I Tool, will the "clone1" contain all the mods I have already installed? If not, will the clone be broken by the absence of these mods?

I would like to have a plain-vanilla non-mod second install of SOA-TOB. Then I would like to use this plain version as the basis for a BG1/BGTutu install. Will this work?

Thanks for any replies,

We recommend cloning a clean install and modding the clones afterwards, moving additional .bif files to the original data folder as needed. (Very few mods use .bifs, most should work with no additional effort than on a standard installation). But, mods already installed should clone properly.

BGTutu is an unknown quantity at this point, as I dont know all that much about it. It will almost certainly fail on a standard clone as made by 3.1. If you want to try, alter the clone's baldur.ini so that HD0 points at the clone folder rather than the orignal folder, and copy the .bifs from the original /data folder to a /data folder under the clone folder. Unless BGtutu is more troublesome that I think, that should be enough to make it work. The next version of the tool should make this easier. Also, I'll look into BGtutu and BGT compatability specificaly. As well as any othe troublesome mods that turn up.

Since I already have mods installed, is it possible for me to make a clean-installation into another folder? (If so, could I do this using your Multi-Install Tool, or should I do it manually by "installing" the game again but telling it a different folder?)

I'm not ready to over-write or uninstall while I'm playing my current mod-arrangement. But I would LOVE to have a fresh unmod'd install on my comp as well. I could even spare the disc space of a whole new install -- I just don't know how to do it. Thanks for any help.

You could try making a clone and then uninstalling all the mods from the original copy. The clone will retain the mods, in theory.

Ahh, hmmm. That is a fascinating idea, andrewas.

Has ANYONE done this? had experience? known tips/issues? I am kinda scared to botch my entire mod install. I won't care so much once I complete the game, but that will probably take me a few months at the rate I play my Single Player saves.

yes, I have tried a few installs. It is a great tool! I mean you can make as many as you want, and a basic clone install with no extra mods installed by you, is only 47.1mb! Now that is small. Also, I just installed bgt on a clone install (with help from andrewas) and it seems to be working alright. So give it a go, it wont affect your original install.
