I just got done reading The Icewind Dale trilogy, great series, but then it got me to thinking. I went back through some of my old Bg2 datas with the encounter with a certain elf on the way to Bodhi's dungeon, and I have to know. How do you pronouce Drizzt Do'Urden's name? (myself and someone else have a difference of opinion, so it'd be nice to know)

Drizzt is Drizzet as far as i know. As for Do'Urden, i'd say the above is quite accurate.

No, Drizzt is commonly mispronounced. Say it like it is spell out. AND NO 'E' Between Z and T.

I also made a tongue twister for a PC name. His shortened name is Z'hindo Qe Kudama. His real .name is Z'hindo Qeduthermo Kudamanenthurte

This is from the link to the wizards site above:

"drisst" - The correct pronunciation. It is confirmed in an interview with Salvatore published in DRAGON Magazine (the TSR house mag) around the time The Legacy came out. [I'll post the date, issue, and pages as soon as I dig it up] Also, this is the way it appears in the Forgotten Realms boxed set.

That's one of the only problems I have with Salvatore. He says that in the books, characters mispronouncing the name as Drizzit instead of Drisst is the way they hear it from Drizzt's accent.

Yet it sounds too far-fetched. My mom has an accent, says her name the way it sounds, and people get it right.

How messed up is Drizzt's accent for it to sound like zzit instead of isst?

"driz-ZIT" - Probably the most popular way to say his name. It is, however, incorrect. I've had someone on the Forgotten Realms mailing list try to tell me that he had a letter from Salvatore himself confirming this as the correct pronunciation; while this may have been true at the time, it is apparent that Salvatore has since changed his mind, evidenced by the book Sojourn in which said rendering is called incorrect.
So Drizzit was correct, but Salvatore changed his mind about it? Don't see the point in it really.

Yes, I prefer Drizzit to Drisst, but just say Drisst most of the time.
