Mission:powergaming party

After not playing BG II for a while I decided to make a powergaming party. Do you have any suggestions? I was thinkhing to try Kensai->Mage wich I have never done before. What kind of party should it be? I have ToB,Ascension,Tactics,etc.

I've just run through SoA with the Kensai/Mage combination... currently back in Ahm after Spellhold with a L21/L19 Kensai/Mage.

The hardest part of the game was just after dual classing him in Spellhold. Managed to level him up to L11 Mage simply by scribing scrolls. This part of the game was tricky to get through, unlike many previous games it made sense to avoid some battles.

There were so many experience points available in the underdark that the character attained a high level and a decent measure of power. From that point on things are easy.

Other traditional powergamers choices include Cleric/Mage, Kensai/Thief and Assassin/Fighter - all offer excellent high level abuses.

Kensai -> Mage
Sorcerer
Sorcerer
Assassin -> Mage
Totemic Druid

Just had to add in the last one. [img]smile.gif[/img] It's a very underrated class, in my opinion.

How about 2 multiclass cleric-mages and 4 sorcerers? It would be too powerful to be interesting.

Are we assuming ToB is installed? I was typing out a response when I realized that many of them involved HLAs.

It depends if ToB is installed or not. For SoA, the 2/4 split felt right. If you're going to the end of ToB, I would recommend 6 mage-clerics. The advantage of 18 devas arriving simultaneously at the start of each battle is not to be dismissed lightly.

Kelsey (romance with you)

This is powergaming and full story party. Use original characters and not modified ones.

Leslie put up a good powergaming party, with more than a touch of roleplaying to it and plenty of romancing to make it interesting.

But for a custom party, Id suggest:

Swashbuckler
Mage/Cleric(multi)
Sorcerer
Archer
Kensai/Mage(dual)
Ranger/Cleric(multi)

I would have included the Blade, but I find bards to be in need of a lot of micromanaging, and along with so many spell casters, it would become frusturating quite quickly. But with this party you have plenty of buffing material, offensive spell casting, a few tanks and ranged support. What more do you need?
