ok, not plot related at all, but maybe newbies would see boots of speed as item spoiler?
anyway, I just found out that with boots of speed on Mazzy's number of attacks is reduced by 3/2 (while dual weilding and using Tansheron's bow), by 2 (while sword & shield), and by 2/2 (single weapon). so basically, her number of attacks go down while wearing boots of speed. My question is, does wearing the boots boost *movement rate* in the expense of number of attacks? or even though the statistics show that the number goes down, but we actually get more attacks per round? Does anyone know how boots of speed affact or improve fighter's attacks? also, does wearing the boots have the exact same effect as being casted Haste (but do go fatigue of course)? It's because of a certain malfunction using the HASTE effect on those boots. BALDURDASH fixes it so it gives a MOVEMENT RATE effect instead. When HASTE effect is employed, it means that your character is hasted, except for gaining extra attacks. This DOES mean, however, that the hasted attack scale from 1-2-3-..-10 attacks per round is used instead of the 1-1,5-2-..-5 scale.

ehhh...can't really follow (I'm not familiar with the whole ApR scale thing :embarrassed:
maybe I should just ask in this way: with boots on or being hasted, would a fighter attack less or more in a round compared to with no boots and in the not hasted state? or does haste and boots make a fighter more sufficient in a combat? (I only know they move faster and seem to act faster, but don't understand the ApR deal) [ 03-30-2004, 01:37 PM: Message edited by: teardropmina ]

Boots of Speed should not affect the wearer's ApR at all--is this a pair that you're sure you found in-game, or one of the 4 pairs visible in Shadowkeeper?
Boots of Speed: Increases movement rate, no effect on ApR, non-dispellable Oil of Speed: Increases movement rate, increases base ApR by 1 Haste: Area of effect (only affects allied creatures), increases movement rate, increases base ApR by 1, usually Fatigues affected creatures Improved Haste: Increases movement rate (stacks with other Increases movement rate), effective ApR temporarily *double* base ApR (stacks with Increases base ApR).

I don't know for sure, but it may be just the way the game engine handles different Haste effects. It may be that the Boots have to reduce your attacks, then apply the effects of Improved Haste in order to funtion effectively. So, if the Boots cut your ApR in half, then apply a general Haste effect = increase movement rate + double attacks, the net effect is to only increase movement rate?
I know it's tough to time an actual "round", but have you noticed Mazzy's actually attacking less frequently with the Boots on, or is she attacking at the same rate but still moving faster? If it's the latter, but her sheet says she attacks slower, it may be just the way the engine handles it. - Imrahil |

You know, this is all moot if we do not know what the "correct" ApR should be.
What is Mazzy's level? Without the Grandmastery Patch, a level 7 Mazzy should have 3 ApR with the Tansheron Bow. It is 4 ApR if you have the GM Patch. |
