I am trying to solve the riddles where you have to put the nine items (jug of water, skull, amulet of the sun, etc) in the statues hands and I just can't seem to find the right combination. Could anyone help me with that?

Before reading further, you should REALLY try and figure out the answers to the riddle yourself - its not hard and you only EVER get ONE first time playing the game... I'd hate to spoil this for you.

Be warned that there are other 'riddles' in Spellhold and further into the game. I suggest you learn to spend a few seconds thinking about the answers and only ask for spoilers when you are genuinely stuck. It really isn't hard when you think about it.

Riddle:

At night I come without being fetched, day I am gone without being stolen. Star Medallion

No beginning. No end. I am a symbol of the worlds cycles. Golden Circlet

Two brothers we are, great burdens we bear, all day we are bitterly pressed; Yet this I will say - we are full all the day, and empty when we go to rest. Worn Out Boots

Here, in this place, you swallow me. Yet, were I more, I could swallow you. Jar of Water

I have seen the mountains rise. I have seen the fall of Netheril. Blah blah blah. Sundial

To those within the dungeon I am joy. To those fully beneath my gaze, I can be Hell. Sun Medallion

I will save your life but yet can you die by me. Iwill settle disputes yet not with words. Sword Medallion

Name me and so shall you break me. Gagged Man

Always do I tell the truth, yet cannot speak. Look to me and see what really is. Mirror

I have two heads but one body. The more I stand still, the faster I run. Hourglass

Try to defeat me but try in vain. When I win I end your pain. Grinning Skull

I see the mistake I now made. I put the sun medallion instead of the sundial, and then did not know where to put the sundial. Thx for the help. BTW I've already solved the riddles with the talking faces. So it was just this one place where I got stuck.

IMO grinning skull would mean death which you cannot defeat and will end your pain. I do not understand the gagged man either.

Gagged man = silence

If you can name him, you've broken the silence.

Just a guess

It's too bad they didn't come up with a few more riddles and then somehow code the game so that the puzzles were a bit more random throughout the game. It just becomes a bit tedious after a few times through.

Well.. that's the problem with all the games. After you've played them for a couple of times, you know all the answers to all the quests, and it's no real challenge anymore to play the game again.

Even Baldur's Gate 2 gets dull after a while because you know exactly what to do, where you will go next.

You can do sidequests in a different sequence.

Possible spoilers...

I also thought that a good way to spice up the game would be to have certain coveted items (a particular mage's staff, a celestial katana, the paladin's avenger, etc.) placed randomly among the high level encounters. That way you couldn't use "Power Word: Prior Knowledge" to shoot straight for the guarded compound just so your kensai can rock through the rest of the game.

Think about how different it would make each of the quests if you didn't know which reward you would get! Why not have Kangaxx guarding the Avenger and Thaxylssilia (sp?) guarding the Staff... One of the fighters in the guarded compound could hold a piece of the Crom Faer and one of the twisted rune leaders could use Fury. It wouldn't change the overall plotlines and would make the game very different each time.
