So this guy is evil and chaotic and many times he would butt in during conversations and do things like demand payment in advance or ask me why am bothering to help. But when I was doing Jan's lover sick child quest she says how her husband was abusing the girl I see him butting in again. And I think he's going to make fun of the mother and/or girl saying how weak they are, but instead he goes something like "I enjoy doing many things. Hurting children is not one of them. That cur is not worth the spittle on my boots."

Just thought I would share it with you. Really impressed me.

I've never had him in my party for any amount of time, but it just goes to show that even the basest of people can have *some* limits.
Besides, I doubt he'd be interesting at ALL if he didn't show some humanity, ever.
(Humanity... Dwarfanity? I don't know...)
It's important for characters to have dimensions and reasons for what they do. This is true for anything... A game, a play, a TV show, a movie, the list goes on.

When in the Slaver's ship quest in the Slums,

Korgan interjects with something like, 'We've got to put a stop to these child smuggling bastards' or something. And says That even he'd never do that.

Korgan is evil, but he's a dwarf. Dwarves have honour. Korgan is a warrior/bounty hunter type and I think a ?duergar? So even at that.. he's got some honour. And I guess he just likes the kiddies

Edit: Even when I play an evil character I'll free Hendak and the like.... but only after partaking in some of the CC's finer entertainments. But that's because I'll get discounts if I help him. And ?Leithan? is just creepy. And really.. who smuggles children? It's lowest of the low... it gives us Neutral Evil assassins a bad name, it does!

He's not a deurgar. If he was, he'd probably be attalked on site by people (like guards) in Amn.

Hm. But have you not seen the text between him and Viconia?

She mentions that Korgan's Bloodaxe clan lived close to the house DeVir

And then he mentions how he burned down the house DeVir and relieved himself on the ashes.

So unless he's just some sort of underground dwarf, I'm sure Korgan is a duergar of some variety since I don't imagine Viconia's house living on the surface or outside of the Underdark =p

Almost *all* dwarf clans are underground. It's just a question of how far underground they originate, where exactly in the Underdark they are, and extenuating circumstances (Weren't the duergar dwarves that illithid had experimented on? Or was that another race?)

I know all dwarves are underground.

I worded that wrongly. But yes, I imagine that Korgan is a duergar because I don't imagine any non-evil dwarves living in such close proximity to the drow.

Just because Korgan's clan lived deep does not mean they were duergar. There are plenty of instances of deep settlements of dwarves (and in the Greyhawk setting, there are even deep dwarves, which are simply an offshoot of dwarves closer to the surface (duergar are another subrace apart from deep dwarves)).

Oh, and most villians are not 100% soulless beings. If you go to a prison, the one type of offender that they have to separate from the other prisoners are child molesters. Why? Because many prisoners were molested as children. Even some of the most brutal murderers draw the line with molesters. The point? Even the nastiest people are still people; they have all the normal range of emotions that everyone else does. That's why your character, even if you play him evil to the core, can still have a romance with Viconia.

Korgan generally has no problem killing others who are supposed to be strong (i.e. adults), and if they can't pull their weight, then he sees them as a liability. However, in his mind, children aren't supposed to be under that standard, they are supposed to be protected. Maybe he was molested as a child, or maybe in his mind children are "innocent" while adults are not. Whatever the reason, by his (rather harsh and cruel) moral code, children are off limits.

*nods at Nerull*

Well you can't blame me, I'm a Tolkien dwarf-theme-guy, not an AD&D dwarf-theme-guy.

But basically yeh. Korgan might be evil, but he's not *that* evil..

This can also be applied to other characters.

Keldorn spoiler...

Take the goody-goodiest paladin of them all, and add a certain Drow cleric to the party. Even Keldorn has his prejudices. I think that's a nifty bit of programming there, giving the supposed "good guys" some traits to make them more realistic people.
