I am in a room with a mind flayer, umber hulk, mage, cleric, couple of fighters, and couple of archers. It was behind a secret door right after you smoke those five losers. Problem is i get smoked no matter what i do and i have never been here before. I have beaten the game before and must have missed this room but I am buffed way up due to Shadowkeeper. It doesn't even let me see what killed me....if it helps any when you walk down the corridor a powerful psychic force holds you temporarily and when you enter the room it seems as though the people are forced against their will. While that leads me to believe it is the mind flayer I really don't know. Thank you for any help that can be given

That particular 'room' acquires a key for you to get there. How the key got with Tazok in the Windspear Hills in the first place is a mystery for itself

As there are Mind Flayers in the room, I would suggest using the Level 5 Cleric spell "Chaotic Commands" which protects you from their psionic attacks (and the Umber Hulk's confusing attacks). Use a lot of summons as well. Skeleton Warriors spring to mind, as they have a lot of resistances (magic, but also missiles!) so they could help you out. Use the summons to occupy them, while you sling bullets/throw darts/fire arrows until they're dead.

Buffing will of course also help (Stoneskin, Bless, Chant, Haste etc.)

"Buffing way up with Shadowkeeper" does NOT make you a better player, as this thread attests. All it does is enable you to zip your way through low- and mid-level encounters so quickly that you can't learn anything from them....and are therefore left helpless against enemies that are somewhat challenging.

My advice is to lose the cheats and play honorably. Learn what Mind Flayers do and what tactics to use against them. One thing I'll tell you right out is to watch your Intelligence: Each time any type of Illithid scores a melee hit, it drains 5 points of INT from the target, for about 5 rounds or so. And, of course, if any of your stats reaches 0, you die.

I agree with Six, I used to use SK to give me near infinite gold, but now I just play the game naturally (Other than the occassional having to use SK for a fight I can't win for some reason, which is rare. In fact, when I have to do that I get Mad!)

It's much more fun playing naturally.

Thank you all for your time and help as it is much appreciated. The only reason i played around with shadowkeeper is that i had beaten the game previously but i don't remember ever entering this room. I refuse to butcher a game till i beat it fair....and seeing as i am having so many problems with this room i know that i must have passed it up. Once again thank you all for your time and advice
