A few days ago, we learned that Interplay's Black Isle Studios division permanently closed its doors. Black Isle debuted in 1997 with the ground-breaking role-playing game Fallout, and proceeded to single-handedly revitalize the RPG genre with huge hits like Baldur's Gate, as well as classics like Planescape: Torment. As part of the studio's closure, its yet-announced Fallout 3 project was canceled. So, a moment of silence, if you please.

I don't spend much time on this forum any more but thought the people that do might want to know the news.

Myself I own every game that Black Isle ever put their name on and I will miss them and the great RPG games they Designed.

crap, frankly the only games i actually finished more than once were black isle, all the baldur's gate stuff etc, hopefully there will be someone to take over the company? to buy it? or is this liquidation final? surely someone can recognise the potential?

Sadly, I doubt that if anyone actually bought Black Isle, it wouldn't be the same... :'(, it's so sad. Baldurs Gate is great, one of te few games that took me more than two weeks to complete (other than FF games). Jus gotta be greatful for what we've had...

I for one will miss them greatly. All of the games Black Isle produced I have played and have no regrets whatsoever. I do hope that someone picks up where they left off so we can all enjoy the thrill and excitement of playing new games in the future. I will continue to play BGII BGI and Icewind Dale compulsively until that time......my 2 cents

I know this for quite some time but let me add my feelings on this matter : IMO they made the best game(s) ever and they single-handedly ressurected FRP genre with BG 1 . I hope somebody will try to patch the whole they have left behind - them as a new team or if somebody is willing to finance the whole thing .

Anyhow RIP BIS !

Actually this was posted in G.D. a while ago, or maybe it was a different forum I view..

Hopefully, like Xen said, the employee's will make a new company or perhaps be hired by other companies to produce more quality games. We can only hope that another company will resurrect Fallout 3

yea it was posted on bioware forum, it is a sad day, such a wicked name, such wicked games, i must say when you compare diablo to bg1 and diablo2 to bg2 and lord of destruction to throne of bhaal, the black isle team win throughout.
Enough said
