Playing on tactics mode now.

It took me 5 times to kill maevar properly and 7 to kill torgal.
This is tough
killed him by mistake, he was turned to stone with chromatic orb and greater malison.
I got the last flail head, but that was it. Did i miss something else with him?
Btw-how tough is the shadow dragon now? I plan on visting him soon.
My party is:
Me-anti-paladin. level 10
edwin 10
jan-10/10 or something like that
korgan-10
Sir -mizbaleh (aka anomen)level 10. was given that name, that means junk in hebrew, because i use him as junk keeper.
valyagar-level 9.

It's not really that bad. Some of the enemies are *much* more difficult, others are not touched at all.

Remember that ALL components are optional, so you can pick and choose the 'improved' enemies you would like to face.

Torgal is one of the better upgrades. Improved Mae'var is more than slightly cheesy. Improved Saughin City is a pain in the #$$!!!

lol

He also drops his Claw, a Dagger that forces the target to Save vs. Death or be Slowed or STR-drained, and some treasure, including a Laeral's Tear necklace.

He/She's a little bit smarter now, but nothing really noticable. All the Tactics Dragons use Wing Buffet more often now, with the "tougher" Dragons using it more often than the "weaker."
Now how can it be a pain in the ass with Mislead cheese or Shield of Reflection? It is not as tough as you think. Even with Tactics enemies can be beaten once you learn the new *art* of fighting.(Legiitimate or cheese)

Trust me, it CAN and DOES still manage to be a pain in the ass. Even in melee, those Sahuagin will punch through an AC of -9 like it wasn't even there (75% odds of making each attack), and do 1D8+15 damage per hit. 3 attacks per round, I think, so even taking on the entire damn city one stinkin' fish at a time means an average of 46 damage per round. Now when you factor in the fact that Potions of Extra Healing heal 27 hp, and you can drink a maximum of one per round, you've soon got to reach the inevitable conclusion that...
If you go to the Improved Sahuagin City, you'll spend most of the time sucking.

But that's not even the point! What kind of battle is it that can only be won by giving the enemies no chance at all??? Use Mislead and butcher them like lobotomized fish while they stand there and let you do it? How realistic is that? Or use the Shield of Cheese and lead them into melee one at a time, pretending that they're not intelligent enough to attack you en masse? Yet tactics like these are pretty much the only way to fight them--even if you buff your party to the gills and soften up the target area with artillery first, you've still got a good chance of losing a party member or two in every skirmish. Oh boy, what fun.

NOTE: Tactics isn't all bad. Some elements, like the Generic Archer and the Improved North Forest, are quite balanced, and excellent.

Ever since I installed the Tactics Mod, I've been having a lot more fun with the game (damn, I sound like I'm advertising or something ). There are some cheesey items you can get in it (Boots of Preserving, for one), but a work-around is to not even use the item, obviously .
It was nice to see the major battles in ToB spiced up since I found the original ones too easy even my first time through.
