Possible spoilers?
I don't know,

How can i get into the room where th head is meant to be?
When i try to pick lock it responds in the fashion of 'the door may be gaurded...'
Do i need a better thief than Nalia (Jan?) or is there a key somewhere. Note- on a walkthrough it claimed there were four boxes in the small room to the left when you go in but i can only see three.

Have you tried bringing the golem back to life?

I think you are trying to open a door wich you can only open after you get the golem head...

This will be a violent spoiling, so...

I will try something here

Move your cursor over all of the stuctures and crates in the room. There may well be only three boxes, but I remember specifically that one of the 'boxes' is part of a cylindrical pillar type thing. Anyways, are you sure you're trying to get in the room with the golem head, and not the room with the symbols on the floor? To get the golem head, go north *spoilers, though this may be pointless by now*

to the room with three furnaces (which you need to place coal in, to get them running, to build the golem). Then, proceed east through the door, across a small bridge, and to another door, open it, and in that room the golem head is located in a 'container' on part of the spinning gear mechanism.

Do not despair for the task is now over. I completed the quest after discovering (using the tab key in every area!) that there was a narrow container next to those big cogs in the top room. I didn't know if that is what the map (given a couple of posts above) implied this but i didn't understand the map. Thanks for the help.
