Ok i have two:

1. When is it a good time to get her, my party is currently on about 11...should i wait for lvl. 12 or more? I mean this based on what lvl. she will be at so that its sort of balanced with the rest of my party.

2. What happens with the strongholds when i leave, i have heard the thief stronghold must be vivited every two weeks or you lose it so im getting it after im back, but what about the others? I have (with the all strongholds mod, of course) fighter, cleric and bard.

by the way i am ranger/cleric, if that makes any difference

1. Wait till your level is a little higher. I think I was level 15 fighter or maybe even more the first time I got her in my party. That level normally increases every few times I go through it since I discover new side quests.

2. I don't know about the thieve's stronghold, I've never played it before. But I've left my fighter stronghold for a long time before and I still had it when I came back. I have always visited my planar sphere often, so I'm not sure if that would go away after a while either. But I don't think that any of them would fall out of your power.

When Imoen re-joins your party, the game checks your party's EXP levels and chooses the "version" of Imoen that most closely matches your average levels. There are only *two* versions of Imoen: One is Level 11, and one is Level 13. Meaning, the more EXP you earn in Chapters 1-3, the farther behind Imoen is going to be when you get to her. Parties that are roleplaying Good will try to rescue her as quickly as possible. Parties that are powergaming will most likely do so as well, because Chapters 4 and 5 are dead easy, and doing them early means there's more total EXP to be earned in the game.

Getting Imoen back soon has one big advantage: She's a great mage! So if your current party is mage-low (and if you have ToB or an XP cap remover) getting her back soon is imperative to ensure her ability to cast high level spells (with ToB or XPcapremover up to lvl9 and HLAs).

I usually do enough quests to get enough money for Chapter 3, then do the quests in Chapter 3 (earning enough money for a few decent items). I've been level 9 going to get her before, and finished Chapter 4 and 5 just fine. It's all in the tactics used while you are there (you have to finish everything in Chapter 4, pretty much, but other than the main quest and one area of your choice you can leave the rest of the Chapter 5 areas for later). If you plan to have Imoen in the party, this is the best option, so she will keep up with the rest of the party.

my last good path through the game I rescued Imoen without doing any quests except the main plot in chapter 2/3. No slavers, no keep,...
Just took Six's advice and raised the moeny by selling stuff.
