ok...too low lvl or what not, I decided to fight the improved kangaxx...but hey, before I can do that, never be able to pass thoss nasty baddies upstair.

now, there are two liches (they do fight in group in tactics), shoot out two ADHWs immediately after they got themselves buffed up, and there's a drwaf who has a silver sword kind of weapon or silver sword kind of ability...I guess it's failing save vs. death, you will die kinda thing right?


my questions for all you old hands who've played through tactics...at what level did you (either with a party or soloing) pass them? how do you stand against that instant death thing?

Dwarf has a Vorpal hit. That means that your Cleric must cast Death Ward. It protects your from all effect of instant death.


I do it after the Underdark. I usually go in and out so i take the Fighter,Dwarf whatever one by one. If I have a Thief I use Detect Illusion instead of Ture Sight,becuase it is not stopped by SIivination for Liches` Mislead.


I use summons to distract them and I try to hit them in the eye with Azuredge and dispel them now and then with Carsomyr.

I do this battle exactly the same as the first time I played it.

I walked into the house, thought, "oh s**t" then ran out. Only one or two of the enemy followed me out and I was able to kill them.

Then I sent a thief in, one backstab, then run out. Again one or two of the enemies came out. I'm sure you get the idea by now.

Remember to either kill all of the Cowled Wizards or pay your fees before you start boosting yourself up for this battle.

Improved Kangaxx himself isn't *too* bad, though the teleport field will get on your tits if you don't prepare for it (most liches in the Tactics mod start to use this... but Kangaxx takes the biscuit with it).

just tried it, but death ward doesn't protect against that.

I get the idea, but have no idea how to protect against the instant death.

Hint:
1. Dwarf can't see invisibility
2. Do you have a F/M, T/M, Blade, ... who can cast Mislead and fight ?

ok, so I finsihed the improved Gaxx as well...

using the green scroll does seem reasonable (or necessary if fight it with a lower lvl party) as the improved Gaxx get to cast some annoying spells...
I imagine if I get my PC F/M to a higher level, I wouldn't have to waste those two green scrolls.

First I tried simply duel with Gaxx with SI on, yet, as soon as I got it down to badly injured, it casted time stop and a moment later, he recovered to either injured or uninjured. Well, I don't have the upgraded MoD (I finished that artist quest); if I had it, maybe I get to Gaxx quicker?

anyway, wasn't able to finish Gaxx before SI expired...I tried use the green scroll, yet Gaxx's Time Stop + recovery seems unlimited...thus it didn't work either.

So I got myself another +4 weapon and used the two green scrolls and snadwiched the Gaxx...one time stop and recovery, then we managed to knock it into moral failure, and finished it off...Gaxx, yellow circled, ran around yet couldn't get out as we were sandwiching it, this is one of the most pleasant scene I've seen in all my SoA games [img]tongue.gif[/img]

If my F/M were in a higher level, with couple of GWWs, maybe I don't need to waste those two green scrolls...maybe I'll try to fight this one later again.

does anyone have more efficient tactics against the improved Gaxx (other than MoD, since I don't have this this run)?

Remember that Mages can cast Melf's Minute Meteors. Sling of Everand's phanthom bullets are +5 enchanted. While your F/M is tanking Kangaxx, you should be supporting with range artillery as well.

Don't forget that Improved Kangaxx's AI makes him switch targets exceedingly quickly. I learnt this the hard way when Aerie ran in to cast Haste on some Fire Elementals...
