i think i have found out why i almost like baldurs gate 1 better. i think its because you spend probably more than half of the game underground, or inside. its quite annoying. i just got into underdark on my first BG2 game and i already know im going to hate it. do you guys think this also?

Dungeon crawling is one ugly word, eh, phrase. But it doesn't bother me here. In Icewind Dale, it does. But not here.

I think Taran is right, BGI was more fun (to a degree) because it was outside way more. I think that in BGII there should have been more areas above ground like in BGI, that weren't that relevant to the plot but contributed a lot more places to go and kill enemies and find cool items.

If you want to discuss about BG1 VS BG2 just go on ToB forum. There has been an interesting discussion about it.

I like the Underdark. The enemies are difficult. It's the first crack you'll have at some really great spells. There are many artifact gear pieces to find. There are two ways to enter, at least three ways to leave, and you can do as little or as much as you wish once you're there.

When i am there i usually just do the main quest and kill the Mind Flayers and Beholders. That is all. Then i just go.
The place is too dark for me i guess...unless i if i play a Evil character!

there is a hard battle just after the duregar on ur way to the underdark near the mind flayers layer. I counted 10 or 12 drow including priestesses and they were really quite annoying.

but if bg2 were exactly like bg1, wouldnt it be a bit boring? i like bg2 just the way it is. the dungeons arent all the same; each dungeon is unique(excluding the two beholder hives). sure, there could be more outside areas, but i just dont think it would really fit into the games atmosphere. atleast i wouldnt stroll around the wilderness with my sister being held captive by a mad mage! and after you get back, you have to get your soul back, so not much time for strolling there either. it makes sense to me that there arent too many different areas in bg2, really...
