I've just past chapter 7, after 'escaping' Candlekeep and on my return to Baldurs Gate. For some reason unknown I'll get as far as FA Inn, rest and regroup, then leave, no further than 1 screen and then my WHOLE party dies for some unknown reason. I've restarted it a number of times jumping from the FA Inn map North 1 square or all the way to BG, but after maybe a minutes time ---- POOF ! ----- DEATH.

Is this a bug? Did I do something wrong? Any ideas?

Did you do the Lothander poison quest. That might be the problem. If you walk around BG and meet this guy, he'll say that his companion has poisoned you. You'll have to find something (don't want to spoil you to much) and he'll give you his HALF of the potion. After that you'll have to retrieve the other half. If you haven't retrieved both or neither, you'll die after about 20 days. If you haven't done this then i can only recommand loading a save game, using CLUA or gatekeeper to cheat the items in.

And welcome to the board

You can't survive the poison quest with items, not even the antidote you get off the other guy will actually stop the poison. It's a perfectly good antidote, but the only thing that will remove the poison is actually fulfilling the quest, so hacking items into the game will not solve anything. My suggestion to you is first to stop and reflect--you'll have to do this from memory, since because you've started a new chapter, all of the quests you did (or started) while in Baldur's Gate will not be in your journal. Once you remember what had happened before you left, go back to your oldest saved game, and do NOT rest at the Friendly Arm, or indeed anywhere else until you're done with this. Those 8 hours would be MUCH better spent purifying your systems. You SHOULD use the CLUA Console or Gatekeeper to teleport your party back to Baldur's Gate, to save on travel time. Good luck!

You know, the others who have posted about dying as a result of not doing the Poison quest said that their characters we complaining about not feeling well, getting Fatigued easily, etc, long before they actually died. You don't mention this, so there's a (small) chance that your deaths aren't a result of failing to complete the quest, and that it actually IS a bug. Please clarify.

Thanks Guys!

Yes I did get a message about someone throwing up but didn't pay much attention to it, since I checked the characters and didn't see anyone officially "poisoned". When it originally appeared I checked with Lothander a couple of times, checking to see if it was real or a prank, but he kept mumbling 'stupidity'. It took it as a prank and left it at that. Surprise...Surprise!

I'm interested in hearing the Gatekeeper or CLUA to transport directly to BG. Is this a cheat and how do I go about it?

Thanks again

Hmmm......next time, I'm sure you'll listen more closely when people come up to you and tell you to go on a quest--especially if it's YOUR life hanging in the balance. Lothander's quest is actually easy to screw up, as he's a finicky fellow. I thought I'd done everything right, but he still said I'd blundered. Luckily (this is the important part), Lothander's partner was still RIGHT where he was supposed to be, and when I went there on a long shot, boom, I still got to complete the quest and cure everybody. Start praying that the same thing has happened in your game.
Lothander's quest is one of the most complex in the game. Let me know EXACTLY what you've done and I can spoil you with what Lothander *should* have said.

Yes, everything involving the CLUA Console or Gatekeeper is a cheat, but you're pretty much grasping at straws here. I THINK teleporting can be done with the CLUA, but I'm not too sure, so I'd download Gatekeeper. Just go to a search engine, use the words "Baldur's Gate download Gatekeeper," or something like that, and start lookin'. Put Gatekeeper in the folder with your saved games, run it, say "Open Saved Game," and go to Settings->Game Location. There are, of course, a whole slew of other things you can do with Gatekeeper (including giving your guys 25's in all stats, an Armor Class of -100, etc.), but that's for you to decide what's right. A simple teleportation, in this emergency, seems justified.

Here in the IRONWORKS home page, there is a page dedicated to Baldurs Gate, and there you can find another one dedicated to BG cheats, where you can download GATEKEEPER.
