I was doing the quest to free the slaves, which starts under the Copper Coronet, and when i was almost at the end, in the room with the mages, a weird thing happened. Minsc simply dissapeared from my party. I wasn't paying close attention to what was happening to my other NPC's, cause i was too busy hacking and slashing, but when the smoke cleared, Minsc was gone.

His picture was no longer visible with the other members of my party. If he was dead, the picture would have turned grey, but it was completely gone.

What the hell happened to him ?

And while i'm on the subject of weird things.... i also did the murder investigation in the Bridge district, confronted the tanner, and instead of dissapearing, like he's supposed to do, he kept coming at me. He couldn't be killed, no matter how long i kept hitting him. He chased me all the way through the friggin Bridge district, and would only leave me alone after moving on to another part of the city. But the minute i went back there, he was at it again.

Eventually i got so tired of the little bastard, i did the CTRL+Y thingy on him, but even that wouldn't stop him. I know he's not supposed to die yet, cause i'll be seeing him later in Trademeet, but why does he keep following me around ?

What a weird day it was for me. And i'm not even drunk or stoned.

Ordinarily when you die, the character's portrait turns grey. However, as you yourself have probably seen in your battles, sometimes so much damage is inflicted that the victim simply explodes. If your character suffers massive damage, there is a chance this will happen, in which case the effect is that you cannot resurrect him. Since this is the case, there isn't much point to keeping a greyed out portrait around so the game removes it immediately.

Minsc is permanently dead .. that can happen ( IIRC if the last hit takes someone to -10 hp or less ). He just blows up into little pieces and decorates the room.

As for the randy tanner, try going into his house and to the lowest floor. Maybe that will set things right again. This is not as it is supposed to be .. a reload will probably work though

Off to bed now, hope it helpz

Note however, that chars can't permanantly die on normal mode or lower. So if you're playing on core rules or higher, you should check the ground for Minsc-Gibs

I went a savegame back, i wasn't finished with Minsc yet. Besides, i don't like things that don't have a proper explanation. Thanks for the replies everyone.

I do have one question though... those derelict houses, like the one Baron Ployer lived in...are they free for me to take em as my own ? I need a place to store some stuff in that i don't wanna carry around all the time.

Yes, they are. There are loads of places you can store items if all your inventories get full of junk. One of the reasons they're there. One problem is you can't rest in 'em. Doesn't make sense, but anyway...

If the NPC's picture disappears during a battle than that probably means a mage cast a very strong spell, and you can't get your character back. It has happened to me and my brother before. You'll be in a fight and all of a sudden 2 of your characters will disintegrate. And you can't get them back. So it is possible for the characters to permenately die.
