Its a ceasar cypher, each character is replaced by one x spaces along in the alphabet. A ->c, B->d and so on, to give one possible example. I'm not sure what the key to this one is, but looking at it, 'i' seems to be 'e', which gives a shift of -4 to read it.

If it's the seemingly nonsense note Wanev gives you in the Asylum, even after you decipher it, it may not seem to be very telling. However, if you keep asking him for "memos", soon one will come forth that will give you a hint about *ahem* *cough* an article of clothing *cough* from BG1, assuming you've kept it with you all this time...

I can confirm that this is the correct key.

Assuming that the spaces of the encrypted message match the spaces of the original message, follow these steps:
  • Look for small words first
  • 1-letter words are always either "I" or "a"
  • Look at the 2-letter words: Repeated letters are probably going to be your vowels. Is, it, at, on, us, no, if, be, etc.
  • Repeated letters (such as in jypp, uyiir, wiss, and qypfivvc) are usually helpful
  • Watch for repeated words (such as ks)
  • Palindromes and near-palindromes (such as church) usually stick out like sore thumbs
  • "Th" words are extremely common. Keep an eye peeled for the same two letters starting many words. Finding all of the "the," "they," "them," "though," "thing," etc., in a sentence isn't a bad start, and you get lots of other common letters in the process.
