Can anyone please tell me how to defeat that Dragon Firkraag. Apparently it's possible or the Order of the Radiant Heart would never have made that an errand. Someone please help, I have been trying to beat him for 2 months now.

Lower resistance.
Greater malison.
Chromactic orb.

Give that a bash

I typically spread my party out in a circle around him, more or less. Lower resistance works, but if your low level, Magic Resistance might work better as it sets the targets resistance based on your level. the lower you are, the lower resistance is set. its meant to be cast on you or a party mate to increase resistance, but in a dragons case it lowers it. Its a level 5 priest spell. As far as i know Lower Resistance is cumulative and will stack with this and itself. Greater Malison as mentioned already is good, add Doom on top of that. Make sure you have some spells that remove combat protections (ie, Stoneskins) such as Breach. No use wasting time hacking down a stoneskin when its hard enough just to hit a dragon with no buffs. Once you have his magic resistances down, start firing magic missiles and such. You can also try the priest spell Harm, which if succesfull brings the target hitpoints to 1 (much cheese could be spread with this i think), or even Slay Living if your feeling lucky.

One thing i learned by mistake is never finish a dragon off with Cone of Cold or anything else that would freeze the dragon. He'll turn into icy chunks destroying a lot of his valuable possesions including his hide.

Summon some creatures like Invisible Stalkers or anything else really, just to spread out the damage he delivers.

Immunity to charms and confusion based spells is also helpfull.

before fighting, make sure you buff youre self up real nice(prot. from fire, haste, possibly strenght) and make sure you have a few breach spells memorized. after that, just fight him, but remember to station youre melee fighters around him so his wing buffet wont make them all fly away. this minimizes his fire breath ability. i will also post some cheesy tactics, but i dont recommend using them.

cloudkill tactic:

stand just out of his line of sight and start casting those cloudkill spells, or you can use a wand of cloudkill just as well.

feeblemind:

memorize as many feeblemind spells as you can and start casting them until firecraker fails with his saves. note that casting feeblemind will not make him hostile

big red squirell

make him hostile, cast doom and greater malison as soon as possible, followed by a polymorph other spell. this should turn him into a feroucius squirell! scary...

edit: shucks, ive been outwritten

edit2: you can also take a look at Dundees dragon slaying tactics. here you will find most(if not all) of the tactics i just posted and more!

No one every mentions my tactic but this works. After destroying Conster, just get Jahiera to cast a simple Harm spell, damaging Frikraag's health to 1hp, memorise more than one if it doesn't work. I think it goes through magic resistance though. This tactic definately works so give it a try

sure, it works fine. the problem is to hit him on that exact hit, since Firkraag has a whopping -11 AC. if it hits, then no problem.

sure we do, i already mentioned it above The cheese involved that i was talking about with regards to it was buffing up the priests THAC0 and saving right there. reloading until the harm lands.

i killed him this way:
magic resistance (raplces his good one with a stupid 20or something like that)
then finger of death (it might take you a few tryes)

or you can come back later when you have those +5 weapons those should take him down (install an item upgrade addon)

also when you mage gets to a high level, he should be able to handel him himself

Okay, first of all, welcome to the Ironworks Firkrag
( 's the other members for not paying attention )

There are a lot of ways to defeat your almost-namesake (BTW could one of our beloved mods put a tiny spoiler tag in that title?), and the most effective of them have already been mentioned. Usually I'd suggest walking away and coming back later, but you are, of course, eager to finish your errand (non-paladins lack that kind of motivation).

What tactic to use depends completely on what characters you have in your party, and what level they have achieved. Usually, they use one of three approaches:
1) Chopping the lizard into tiny bits:
This involves hitting Firkraag so often that eventually he'll reach 0 hitpoints and die. The problem is that it's one angry reptile, and the closer you are to it, the more damaging the attacks it can use on you.
If you can, attack him with many creatures and characters, and have any that are severely wounded retreat from the fight so you can heal them.
Crude, but if you can survive long enough it will work.

2) Drilling some extra nostrils
This involves using missile weapons which do as much damage as possible. Sommoned creatures may hold the dragon off for a while, after that you'll have to start running

3) The magic approach
This involves lowering the dragon's magic resistance. The lowest level spells that work here are Magic Resistance and Lower Resistance. The first is actually not supposed to work, and should only be used if you want to defeat him the 'easier' way.
After the magic resistance is down, you can use spells to hurt the monster. Fire spells won't work though, so you'll have to use other ones. Apart from damaging spells, you can use spells that kill the dragon right away or lower his strength, speed and similar.
Just like with 2), you'll want to keep the creature occupied with summoned creatures or the tougher characters.

Most tactics are a combination of the three, with each character doing what they do best for maximum effect.

Why do people say this? It very clearly states in the manual that Magic Resistance can result in lowering someones magic resistance.
