There's a Broken Magical Sword that you can pick up in Irencus' Dungeon. What's it good for ?

Absolutely Nothin!

I've only found it once, and that's the only place I've seen it--so I assume that BioWare gave one of the Duergar a weapon, but forgot to mark the "unbreakable" tag when they created that weapon. Whenever you hit somebody with a weapon that can break, there's an X% chance that the weapon DOES break.

*nods from experience* yup it was downright deadly in bg1 when Minsc was knocking heads and was suddenly unarmed, the primary reason why I looked for magical stuff as soon as I could.

So it was only up for good use in BG1? Heh, you'd think they'd let you take it to Cromwell to get it repaired and such

Knowing Cromwell, it would be probably cheaper to buy a new one
Not to mention that you can pick them up at the corner of every street...

That weapon is not some relic from bg1 or anything else interesting for that matter. Have any of you ever used the mage spell "Enchanted Weapon" or something like that?
Well, once the spell expires it leaves a broken magical weapon identical to the one sometimes found in Irenicus' dungeon.
We can only assume that the Duergar mage in that room made it for his friend and then the spell ran out, leaving the broken weapon on his dead body.

i heard, though this probably isnt true, that if you collect a broken sword in every game (bg1, bg2, icewind dale, ext.) that you get something special, like i said i dont think this is true, but heck maybe it is

I doubt it would be true; after all, how would the game(s) know that you had all the swords, since IWD is not compatable with BG2.
