What summons work the best for you? I'm solo'ing a C/M, and I've found out that Aerial Summons (or something like that- Level 6 cleric spell) is pretty darn good so far, at least in the Improved Keep. Are there any other spells like that which are overlooked, but work really well for you?

My favourite is Mordekainen's Sword. Followed by Skeleton Warriors.
Ofcourse, I like the ones you can summon using ToB-HLA's better, who's names I won't give away as this is the SoA-forum.

Once you are strong enough and can cast level 7 mage spells I like to use "Summon Hakeashar" First because it is completely immune to magic and it drains memorized spells from the other Mages like "Irenicus". Second he is very powerful with lots of hit points and is totaly immune to normal weapons.

for the Cleric side I use Conjure Earth Elemental. I think it's the most powerful Cleric summoning spell it's also level 7, this big brown ground pounder can cause some damage.

now for you lower level Characters.

your all going to die! NO just kidding!
keep at least Monster Summoning III,II & I in your pocket for a fast blast. They can keep the bad guys busy while you set up for the bigger spells try to get a wand of monster summoning to use between the big spells. This is a great must have tool for all Mages it opens up a space in you book for another spell.

Love Aerial Servants as well. Got shitloads of hitpoints, have one of the most damaging melee attacks I've seen (once scored a non-critical 45 dmg hit!), and are immune to normal weapons.

The Moose (part of the Imp Ilyich mod), is also very cool. Lousy AC and and HP, but hits pretty hard, got decent THAC0 and seems to have very high elemental and magic damage resistances. This thing can withstand several Abi-Dalzim's!

I know IE doesn't list any resistances at all, but it also lists Clay Golems as being immune to crushing weapons and only vulnerable to piercing weapons, so you know it can't be 100% trusted

Heh... I also noticed that some time ago - the Infinity Explorer has Crushing Resistance and Missile Resistance mixed up. Get Near Infinity, instead - it doesn't suffer from this little bug, and is WAY more informative.

Ironically... NI *does* list resistance - all, except the Magic Damage one.

I decided not to use summons in my last game. They are exploiting stupid AI or probably very difficult programming for the AI. Would you as player cast ADHW at Skeleton Warrior ? Or Remove Magic ? Or Chaos ? Yeah, didn't think so.

They are necessary for some Improved fights (probably ?) but I'll try a solo and see how I fare against Jonny, but for all the other fights I think they are doable.

I beat both liches (Elemental and Shade) and withstood everything they threw at me. Before this game (solo R/C) I usually summoned something and they wasted spells. Would a human player do that ? Nope.

Too easy for the brain cells to play like that.

But it would be a challenge to play a game and never kill anything alone - only your summons should do it ! No killing spells, no melee, only summons.

My very first solo game, a Skald, rarely killed anything past a certain point. Hasted Skeleton Warriors and Earth Elementals along with Skald Song totally rocked the casbah. All the while, he was invisible, non detectable, and most of the time, never carried a weapon in his hands because he looked a whole lot cooler walking around with no weapons. You know somebody means business if they come to kill you and they are not armed... Something BAD is about to happen.

Okay. I'm going to try out the Earth Elementals from the level 7 Cleric Spell. Heal/Greater Restoration is pretty much worthless if you're solo'ing... (though I still keep a spell of each, just in case)
