Picked this one up in Spellhold, and I've been wondering about its purpose... I do recall having seen something about this recipe for Amnish Dragoon soup before, but I'm not sure anymore what is was; something about it being in cipher? Does it have any use?

Hmm, so it's just a practical joke, then? Or part of a never finished subquest?

Easter Egg, i think-Dradeel's the nutter on Werewolf Island in BG1, ain't he?

Trivia of the day.

The recipe is of no real practical use, although one can actually take the effort to make it.

Minor Spoiler

However... Dradeel has a second note that he will only give to you after several tries. It is encrypted, and when deciphered, hints to you about how to create the Big Metal Unit.

Yes! That's what I meant, I knew it had something to do with being cyphered and all the pantaloon humour, have read it before, just don't know where anymore (the Baldurdash site? No idea, it's been a long time...). Didn't think about asking more info from Dradeel, however.
But thanks for refreshing my memory, Dundee!

.....except that it isn't Dradeel who gives you the notes that are supposed to lead to excessive Pantalooning, it's Wanev. And yes, I read the BaldurDash site too, and I have NEVER recieved that second note, no matter how hard I try. I did decipher the first one by myself, though, and by "real" methods, not just "shift the whole alphabet 1 letter."

Dradeel is a mad elf that is on the werewolf island in BG1, he gives you a recipe book. (you find a cooking book with some of his recepies somewhere else as well).
in fact, most of the mages in spellhold are people you have met in BG1. the only one i missed was xan.....
