So..
1) When you are creating your character, do keep the stats you get the first time or do you roll until you get decent ones? 1a) If you roll again, do you have like a (moral) limit of rerolls, or do you just roll and roll..? 2) How high stats do you try to get? (I mean altogether) 3) What is the highest (altogether) stats you have got? I have had 94, IIRC. |

I have two methods of rolling stats, "adjusted" and "unadjusted." Adjusted means I keep hitting Reroll until I get a total of at least 90 stat points, and then I pump my guy's desired stats to the maximum and fiddle with the others as best I can. Unadjusted also means that I hit Reroll a lot, but I don't use the (+) or (-) buttons to move stat points from one stat into another: Each roll is complete and inviolable. When one of my rolls shows a good roll for the type of character I'm building (such as when I rolled a 16/17/18 for the Str/Dex/Con of a Barbarian), I write down that set of 6 stats. Then, when I've got 10 sets of stats written down, I pick the best one, and use those for my final stats.
I think my highest total roll was a 97, on a Paladin.

Personally, I roll .... and roll .... and roll.....
Don't forget the save last stats button allows you to hang on to your best until you get better. But, now that I know the game better, it's not such a big deal - you know what stats you can lower and fix via magic anyway. But, when I wanted a high STR, I would immediately pump the STR to 18 and check the % to see how good it was. If the STR % and the total # were good, I'd keep it as my last saved roll. Then go back to rollin, rollin, rollin. ![]() ![]() ![]() Hell, I figure if you're gonna play the guy for long you may as well enjoy your stats. 3E takes care of this by allowing characters to pump stats after character creation, but in 2E you're relatively stuck. This was why I used a very generous character gen system with my 2E players - you are simply so much more devoted to a character who is, well ... heroic. |

1a--depends; most of the time till I get tired of clicking for some multiplayer games, I use a best of ten rule: players can only roll ten times for stats, and keep whichever one they want 2--depends on the class I'm going for 3--for a solo ranger/cleric, I had 95 points: STR 18/98 DEX 18 CON 18 INT 12 WIS 18 CHA 11 I learned the use of rerolling way back when playing Bard's Tale on a C64. I started out using some of the premade characters, but after I had the fighter to level 18, I realized that I could start a new character who would max out in less levels from scratch, than it would take my current fighter starting from level 18! (Bard's Tale randomly increased one stat on every level up; to a max of 25)

1. I roll again (unless I score jackpot first roll obviously)
1a. moral limit. I keep the first roll equal or over 84. I chose 84 because it allows you to max out 3 stats and have the rest at 10, anything over 84 is a bonus. If a character needs more than 3 good stats ie paladin, tough, compromise. 2. see above 3. 93 in BG1, 89 in BG2

1) I always re-roll till I get a good set of stats.
1a) Just keep on rolling... 2) I always aim to max out the essential stats for that class (which always includes max STR, max DEX and 16-19 CON depending on class), as well as getting at least 11+ in all other stats. I couldn't imagine playing a character with 3 INT, CHA or WIS, who the hell would want to be that guy in real life? 3) I've gotten 99 for a Ranger/Cleric once, though it is very easy to roll good stats for those, since they have many and high requirements. Only took me about 5 minutes really

I usually have 85 as my minimum roll, though I might differ with a fighter if I get a n 18/90-00 strength score.
I have only had one character with above 90 stats (besides Sarevok that is). He was a gnomish illusionist named Xantabar.

1. I roll and roll also... unless I want challenge.
2. About 90 (84 for fighters/barbarians/thieves) 3. I got once 95 for my paladin. That was quite easy, because paladins get almost always good stats (min cha 17, wis 13, str 12, con 9) |
