Several plot pieces that just seem to... end
I'm going to list the ones I can think of (which will be about 25% of the ones I've noticed, i can never remember things once I actually go to write them down). If anyone can shed light, that would be great. Also if anyone can think of others I'd be interested to hear.

1. was there ever supposed to be some effect of helping the sahuagin rebels or the king ? cause there's that note in the treasury about them plotting to invade the land cities, and something in the journal about .. should you really help repopulate a race of your enemies ?

2. the mind-flayers in the sewer... On my last run through I noticed one of them mentioned something about "The Hidden"... Now isn't "The Hidden" who you have to go to on some other quest to rescue someone ? Oh !! Jan's girlfriends daughter. You go to The Hidden for help on that... does it link up ?

3. The last time I killed final Bhodi, the room the the NW in the lower level has a small chest, re-locked and trapped since the first clearing of the vampire guild. In it i found 3 documents about vampirism with notes about talking to some priest in the docks temple. I went there... nothing ?

4. The temple of Helm. After clearing the beholder cult, recruiting the artist guy and then going and helping the Lathander temple get their holy thing back in the slums, the 2 guys that give you quests in the Helm temple keep saying "we'll come get you when we need you again". do they ever need you again ?

5. What are empty potion bottles for ? and the alchemists bottle in the temple of Helm. someone said it was a quest to do with mazzy and an ogre in the slums, but the only ogre in the slums I've seen is the one who challanges her to a pit fight.

6. the "buried alive" guy. you find his attackers in that house in the Bridge district, but it seems to end there. Is this something to do with the infamous Twisted Rune and that Guarded Compound in the Temple district ?

7. Nalia mod question. The readme says her quest contains bits in the slaver stronghold/slums quest, and the barracks in the Docks, and to have Minsc. I never saw any evidence of any of this.

8. Nalia Romance (this bit is just my problems with romances so you might want to skip it) For some reason the romance with her ended right after she offered to consecrate the marriage. I said no and she thanked me in the morning, and that was the last lovetalk type thing from her. I still had to rescue her from the roenals and a bit later I killed Jnr, then a lot later Snr attacked the keep and I killed him too. She said I was the permanent lord of De'Arnise Keep and that was the last I heard from her at all. I'm now up to the elven city, Aerie gave me a bit of lovetalk after, so did Imoen (with Imoen romance installed). I was never asked to choose any of them but they all just seem to have given up. I have Me (fighter), Sir Anomen, Nalia, Imoen and Jaheira (who i always tell to shut up, but I help her with the harpers, who haven't finalised their crap either !)

I just can't seem to get anywhere with the romances, they always seem to be going well, and suddenly just dry up. but that's apart from the rest of this post. Any ideas/comments on any of these missing plot bits ?

1. Helping the rebels, means you get a better king on the throne. Which will in turn strenghten their numbers. The note you find in the treasury is a journal of sorts, that gives insight in their plans and ways. Basically just something to read, and you may decide to kill the rebel-prince after that.
Or you could just leave it be, its supposed to underline the fact that the sahuaguin arent very friendly creatures, who dont really like surfacers and invade them on occasion.

2.Yup, it links up .. the hidden that helps you cure Jan's girfriends daughter's mental Illness is a mind flayer ( hense the mental Illness ).
They're trying to take over the city, a plan which you foil if you invade their lair in the temple-district.

3.You'll notice the next time you go through the game, and have an active romance by the time Bodhi greets you

4.Not if its not your stronghold I think

5. Heard stuff 'bout it . .but dunno

6. There's a woman they kidnapped and were planning to bury next on the second floor,.. take the evil path and collect her rantsom to receive the bronze pantaloons. The bronze pantaloons are part of an easter Egg that spreads from BG1 to ToB.

7. Dunno

8. Dunno

Well, I can't help you out with very many of these. I just have the normal romances installed (although I DID download the "Ease of Use" Mod that allows concurrent romances ).

4. Sounds like you figured out who "the Hidden" was on your own. I've only done BGII once so far and I really don't remember alot about the earlier chapters. It's simply been to long.

5. Part of the Mazzy Quest is a potion that can be used to "drug" the ogre and make him easier for her to defeat. I'm not positive, but I assume that's where the alchemy bottle comes in. I think you just send someone (OTHER than Mazzy) to the temple. Retrieve the alchemy jug and ask them to produce a potion for you. You then give this to the ogre and it either knocks him out or impairs him enough to make Mazzy's victory pretty easy. I'm not positive about this...I just read about it in a Walkthrough several months ago. Some details could be completely wrong.

6. This one I DO know. The purpose of the "buried alive" guy is to inform your character about the kidnappers in the Bridge District. Go there and take them out. When you search the house, you will find another kidnapped prisoner on the top floor..a noblewoman. The "quest" part comes into play if you choose NOT to release...but to collect the ransom yourself. You will meet her squire (or assistant or whatever) outside the Coppor Coronet and he will pay the ransom - which just happens to be a pair of Silver Pantaloons. If you played through Baldur's Gate I, you should have a pair of Gold Pantaloons to match it. A third "Pantaloon component" is available in ToB. These 3 items can then be forged into ......

THE BIG METAL UNIT

A full-body suit of armor that comes with all types of "enemy slaughtering" weapons (like a Scorcher and frag grenades).

Even if your character is good-aligned, it's worth the Reputation Loss (2 points) you suffer for being "involved" in a kidnapping. The Rep loss is the ONLY disadvantage to taking the ransom and can easily be restored or replaced.

Be "a little bad", take the ransom, and go for the BIG METAL UNIT!!!!

lol
I heard about the Big Metal Unit somewhere. just the name
Um...I have played BG1 through several times, unfortunately I didn't import my character though (and even if I did, I always figured the golden pantaloons did nothing so I never kept em), but I guess I can shadow keeper it in and then get the ransom. Is it possible to get the other pantaloons without doing the ransom ? because I haven't played BG1 in aaaagggesss but I'm sure I saw some pantaloons a few weeks ago in another run-through I did. Maybe it was the ToB ones, when I first got ToB. ooooh well anyway that gives me some new fun to work out. I always wondered what that woman was for...

*grin* off to find the pantaloons

2.) The Hidden from those quests probably is the same Hidden, but I doubt there is any real connection between them.

5.) It was I who said that, though I know nothing more than daan.

6.) Slavers in Slums, Guarded Compound in Temple, ransom in Bridge and the Twisted Rune should have been linked. It was planned, but due to lack of time, it was never implemented into the game. A pity.
Some mods (Nalia, IIRC) repair the missing link.

This may well explain where I got the impression that Nalia was somehow related to the slave-trade. I can't see the ransom episode fitting in with the rest of them though. One thing that does is Riejek Hidesman's little bit o'fun in the bridge - Rune Assassins seem to indicate something there (and it's also another unfinished encounter - just where is Vellin Dahn?)

I also think that the "hidden" reference was meant to be important. All part of the same plan of the Illithids. Which then makes me wonder why Tazok has the key - what's his connection?

There are way too many loose ends like this which could *almost* spoil the game.

I know hey, I've always wondered why Tazok has the key.

As for the skinner murders (if that's who Vellin Dahn is, can't remember exactly)... I've finished that. There's 2 parts:
1. Go to Trademeet, a woman asks you to help her son. It leeds from there
2. In the Umar hills villiage, there appears a 4th merchant outside the Inn. Buy a certain book (and save it first cause the puzzle is HARD to work out, for me anyway). Took me a while to find the later parts of this quest-thread. Prt 2 is good for evil characters

PS yeh sorry Vedran, I knew I saw it somewhere but couldn't remember exactly.
<-- mind like a sieve

Karlosevic - you've just pointed out what missing in the skinner murders. Fine, the trademeet bit tidies up Riejek's involvement, BUT speaking to the trader in Imnesvale you do whilst pretending to be Reijek (remember the riddle about his master's name - Vellin Dahn becomes Darcin Cole) - Vellin himself shadow doors out of the underground river area, never to be seen again... so just who is he?

About Nalia's keep. Is it ever revealed who is the 'stronger one' who has Torgal at his beck and call and dire-charmed Glaicas.

Since I'm starting to get the impression that all roads lead to the Twisted Rune, it must be Shandalar
