Spoilers.
. . . . . . . . The improved mindflayers are out of control. I am soloing an necromancer. I am high level twenties, and the mind flayers in the room near the brain are unbelievably tough. A few tendrils, and I'm toast, even with the greenstone amulet. This is the toughest fight yet, IMHO. Been breezing through so far. Though I have not faced improved Iliych (installed tactics mod post-Irenicus dungeon).

The Improved Illithids are indeed a pain. Nevertheless, they are a fun challenge.
Luckily, you are a Mage, and Mages can deal with anything. ![]() Drink a Brine Potion to prtect yourself from their Psionics attacks, and Protection from Magical Weapons to render their tentacles useless. Skeleton Warrior and Mordekainen's Swords are great summons agaist them - just be wary of Death Spells. Oh, and one last piece of advice - be sure to memorize True Sight. The Improved Mind Flayers have a tendency of using Invisibility a lot. ![]() |

Yes, the brine potions plus the protection from magical weapons did the trick. Five mordekainen's swords made short work of the nasty little buggers.

Glad it worked.
Have you entered the Improved Beholders Hive yet? Try it without the Cloak - it's quite the challenge. Let me know if you have troubles with their Anti-Magic Rays. ![]() |

I did not have near the difficulty with the Beholder's lair - though I refrained from using the cloak of mirroring (I'm only going to put it on when I reach something I simply cannot beat with any other strategy).
I simply summoned a Fallen Planetar and four Mordenkainen's swords, hasted them all, and rushed through as quickly as possible, dodging behind walls to avoid Beholder eye beams. Got through two groups of beholders before my Mordies dissappeared and the planar being dispatched another group. Rested once and repeated. No more beholders. Now I am tangling with Bodhi, and having a great deal of difficulty. The grimward arches and vamps are no problem. A chain contingency filled with Abi Dalzhim's Horrid Wiltings, a time stop three more Abi Dalzhim's Horrid Wiltings another time stop and three more ABHWs obliterates everything in the room except Bodhi. Then I run away, she gives chase and sucks the life out of me in three hits (three hits after my improved mantles run out).

The Beholders didn't cast Death Spells on your Swords?!
![]() If only i had that luck... About Improved Bodhi. Replace the Abi Dalzim's with Dragon Breath. Will punch right through her Magic Resistance - and she has no Fire resistance IIRC. Ah, the joys of being a high level Wizard... ![]() |

The swords would get snuffed occasionally, but with concentrated effort, we could knock out the big beholders first - ignoring the gauths.
Should've tried dragon's breath, excellent. Just had an encounter that was, imho, quit funny. The githyanki approached me in the slums to retrieve the silver sword. I also happen to be despised - being the son of the lord of murder and a necromancer tends to do that - and a crew of cowled enforcers and amnish enforcers spawned right as the githyanki encounter began. Time stops. All hell breaks loose. Time starts. Githyanki and enforers blasted to bits all over the slums along with a half-dozen innocent bystanders. Some halfing woman managed to survive - I have no idea how - and started to run off. Improved alacrity, three magic missiles, just for good measure... no witnesses.
