sad and pitiful characters

What is the most pitiful character that you can think of? No not stat wise, I mean one that contradicts itself like an Illithid with a mental disorder or what-not. That one has my vote most certainly, so what ones can you think of?

Wait, so if a Blind beholder (Ex. Unseeying eye) is strong, then it would mean that that the retarded illithid and others that we have named are stronger than the average ones!

How about a Beholder guarding some treasure, who just lets you walk up and take all of it, and then vanishes?
