This is quite a frustrating bug. I have my Pally equipped with Amulet of Power, Carsomyr and Ring of Gaxx. Total Magic resistance is 65%, this is also shown correctly most of the time. However, whenever I reload the game, my resistance always goes to 50. I have to re-equip the amulet and ring to get it back up to 65%. Is this merely a display bug or is it in-game as well? Anyone know how to fix it? I'm using the latest ToB patch, latest Baldurash ToB fix pack, XPCap lvl50 mod and the Weimer Tactics Mod with all components installed.
Edit: What happened to the forum search function? Can't see it where it should be. [ 11-25-2002, 03:30 PM: Message edited by: Rataxes ]

It also resets to 50% if you re-equip carsomyr without a reload.

there's been some discussion about this topic recently, apparently Carsomyr resets magic resistance to 50% every time it swings, (if you have a higher base magic resisance, like a natural 10% it does stack with the 50% from Carsomyr, otherwise, Carsomyr only gives you a base 50% resistance)

So the best permanent MR you can hope to get with a pally wielding Carsomyr is 60%? Well it's not too shabby I guess...

Carsomyr grants 50% (not +50%). That's why the MR from the Purifier is superior in many ways IMO (since it does stack with other items).
The most MR you could get from Carsomyr is: Minor ToB spoilers * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Wizard Slayer @ level 25 dual to thief -> innate MR = 37% 10% from tear of Bhaal -> 47% 5% from the Machine of Lum the Mad ->52% Carsomyr equipped (use any item) -> 102% MR ![]() If you're not going via the Wizard Slayer option, the most you could get is 65% which isn't to be sniffed at! ToB Item Spoiler
~ ~ ~ ~ One should note though... a Wizard Slayer->Thief can get extremely good magic resistance and physical damage resistances if you use the Purifier and the Defender of Easthaven. [ 11-26-2002, 06:53 AM: Message edited by: Dundee Slaytern ] |

Defender of Easthaven is a must have.
If you are dual wielding, equip it in your second hand, as the resistance is granted regardless of which hand, and stick the Flail of Ages +3/+5 in your main hand and you have a hell of a weapon combo. I prefer however to substitute Flail of Ages with The Equiliser, but that is a personal choice, because I prefer The Equiliser over Flail of Ages. Oh, Dundee, before you say it, I read your report on The Equiliser. No need to quote it again! ![]() ![]() ![]() DJG |

ToB Spoilers
~ ~ ~ ~ Before Dualclassing to a Thief, give the Wizard Slayer nothing but Hardiness. 25 + 20 + 40 = 85% resistance to all physical damage for 2 turns. A base of 45% phyDmg resistances. Not to be sniffed at. ![]() A level 25 Wizard Slayer gets 37% base Magic Resistance. Purifier = +30% Amulet of Seldarine = +10% Ring of Gaxx = +10% 9Hells = + 10% TMoLtM = +5% Total = 102% Come on! Say it with me, "Can't touch this, duh-duh-duh-duh-duh ~~" Why have Carsomyr... when the benefits of Purifier and DoE are so much better. ![]() |
