Falling on Floor Laughing There will always be an Ireland...

...the Dail has passed a new law, the story is here http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/34671425...ashington_post

I guess Ireland has a religious Right also. Time for a beer!

Like a dying animal in the throes of death, old institutions lash out in vain attempts to regain control. Successful or not, their true colors are revealed.

They lead not by unconditional Love, but by vain and egotistical fear. As such the fruits of their labor are indeed fearful. Freedom and Peace lost, Truth obscured.

The truly faithful risk being called blasphemors, for they renounce the old broken institutions and Love the fear-filled trespassers and sinners anyway.

But if the new law addressed hate speech towards homosexuals, it would be openly embraced as "progressive".

Yes - true colors show indeed.

Up to your old tricks already I see. My post fails to mention homosexuality. The false implications of hypocrisy are duly noted as is your lack of self-control.

Yes, Chewie, you're up to your old tricks - condemn and deflect rather than addressing the issue. Nothing unusual there.

The law in Ireland states it is illegal to use "abusive or grossly insulting language" towards any religion (not just Catholicism or Christianity). In other words, it makes "hate speech" illegal, much as America has done with laws regarding hate speech towards homosexuals and other cultural victims.

Given your position on homosexual rights, I suggested you would support the Irish law if it were condemning language that was "abusive and grossly insulting" towards homosexuals. If I'm wrong about your willingness to support such a law, I humbly apologize.

The law does not outlaw atheism, it simply outlaws hateful speech, which has been done here as well.

The only hypocrisy evident, is any, is found in those who condemn "hate speech" against one group but not another.

Hate-speech law, awesome. Anti-free speech law, not so awesome. They need to define the language better, as it impedes on freedoms as it is right now. Don't we all agree, the if it was a law condemning free speech and expression of opinion about any religion (say catholicism since most Irish are) that this would be a terrible thing?

If it's "change" you are after, then we have a poltician for you! I'm sure he will address those changes...on the campaign trail...for sure...

There you go putting words and ideas in my post that are not there to make a contentious point. And you still got in a cheap personal shot with the implication of hypocrisy.

Another series of failed Cerek posts. Can't even address the words and ideas I actually posted. Has to resort to cheap shots and making arguments against ideas that have nothing to do with what I posted.

Who wants to speak out against an institution that has a history of harboring child molestors?
