Sunglass Man Dungeons & Dragons Survey

I'm doing a research paper for a writing class and we have to include the results of a survey. If you could please take a minute or two to answer the following questions, it would be greatly appreciated. In my results, I have to include who took the survey, but I promise your name will not be tied to a specific set of responses and will only appear in a list of all the respondents.

Thanks for helping me out.

1. Have you played a table-top (non-computer) Role Playing Game (RPG) before? If so, which ones?

2. Have you played table-top (non-computer) Dungeons & Dragons before? If so, which versions?

3. Have you spent money on Dungeons & Dragons? If so, what did you buy?

4. Have you ever run a game of Dungeons & Dragons, i.e. been a Dungeon Master (DM)? If so, do you prefer DMing to being a player?

5. Have you played a computer or video game version of Dungeons & Dragons? If so, which one(s)?

1. Have you played a table-top (non-computer) Role Playing Game (RPG) before? If so, which ones?
Dungeons & Dragons [the old boxed set], AD&D [first ed], Tunnels & Trolls, Aftermath [out of print], Top Secret, Mercenaries, Spies & Private Eyes, Teen Age Mutant Ninja Turtles, Fallout P&P, Gammaworld.

2. Have you played table-top (non-computer) Dungeons & Dragons before? If so, which versions?
D&D Basic through Immortal Boxed sets. AD&D first edition Players Manual and DM Guide + many supplements [like Oriental Adventures, Unearthed Arcana, Wilderness Survival Guide, Monster Manuals, Mythology Guide, etc.] and many many modules.

3. Have you spent money on Dungeons & Dragons? If so, what did you buy?
All of the above at one hobby shop or another [when those types of hobby shops used to be pretty easy to find].

4. Have you ever run a game of Dungeons & Dragons, i.e. been a Dungeon Master (DM)? If so, do you prefer DMing to being a player?
Prefer playing! Well, provided the DM knows what he or she is doing that is.

5. Have you played a computer or video game version of Dungeons & Dragons? If so, which one(s)?
Every Gold Box game ever made by SSI/TSR and I've forgotten more fan made FRUA designs than I can remember right now [i.e. played many many of them]. Played a little of the more modern AD&D based games like Diablo, Baldur's Gate, and the like but since they came out around the time I was heavily into the Post-Apocalyptic RPG "Fallout" series they kind of took a back seat.

EDIT/OPTIONAL: If you count any CRPGs loosely based on the fantasy world popularized by the company founded by the legendary Gary Gygax then I would add many many others to the list. Bard's Tale series is right up there in lights for me. Next up would be the Ultima series and the Wizardry series. Then I would have to list the dozens and dozens and dozens of Interactive Fiction RPGs I've enjoyed. All the Infocom games, all the Zork games, all the fan made IF games designed using AGT, TADS, INFORM, and other such systems. Oh yes and I almost forgot those old ASCII symbol Dungeon Crawler games like Alpha Man.

I'll never ever forget the thrill of using my first CRPG creator. I used a now ancient system called ACS [Adventure Construction Set]. Man was that cool at the time! It was really basic two or three color graphics much like the first Ultima game but the thrill was being able to customize everything, graphics, items, weapons, monsters, story, everything! You just can't imagine how thrilling it was for me when I was just a wee lad.

2nd EDIT: Damn how could I forget the good old Arcade days!? There were some really kick ass RPGs to be played back in the 80's when gigantic arcades ruled the land of teenagedom. Gauntlet and Dragon Slayer are two that really stick out in my mind for AD&D inspired Arcade games, but there were many others. Also in high school I had the first Nintendo game console. God, I must have played Legend of Zelda at least a thousand times!

These answers were brought to you by Kenneth Eugene Gay of Cumberland County, Tennessee.

4. Have you ever run a game of Dungeons & Dragons, i.e. been a Dungeon Master (DM)? If so, do you prefer DMing to being a player?

SSI's Gold Box series (Champions of Krynn, Secret of the Silver Blades, others), Eye of the Beholder, Baldur's Gate series (I, II, additional packs), Icewind Dale, Temple of Elemental Evil (demo version!) ...all to various states of completion (I only finished two of them) A few quarters in that D&D arcade game years ago as well. (1. Have you played a table-top (non-computer) Role Playing Game (RPG) before? If so, which ones?)
- Yes. Dungeons & Dragons, Teenage Muntant Ninja Turtles/Palladium, RuneQuest

(2. Have you played table-top (non-computer) Dungeons & Dragons before? If so, which versions?)
- Basic Dnd, 1st edition, 2nd Edition.

(3. Have you spent money on Dungeons & Dragons? If so, what did you buy?)
- prolly spent close to $250 on Dnd books over an 8 year period, preferred to get them used if I could. Dnd Boxsets 1 - 5, 1st edition and 2nd edition Phb, DmG, Unearthed Arcana, Duneoneers Survival guide, Monster manual 1 + 2, FF, Monstrous compendium 3 ring binder, Dragonlance Monsterous Compendium 3 ring binder, Monstrous Manual (2nd edition), Tome of MAgic, Wizards Handbook, Players Option: Tactics, Planescape boxset, misc modules

(4. Have you ever run a game of Dungeons & Dragons, i.e. been a Dungeon Master (DM)? If so, do you prefer DMing to being a player?)
- I was a DM for 96% games played in the 8 year time I was into it. I prefer DM-ing, but I think that its a matter of taste and that a new persons "style" would be fun to play under.

(5. Have you played a computer or video game version of Dungeons & Dragons? If so, which one(s)?)
- played All of the official TSR/SSI Goldbox games at least a little, if not over and over again after "beating" the game. Heroes of the lance arcade side scrolling for Nintendo. Played many RPGs (one of my two preferred category of games from a diehard gamer who wants to create games), just not necessarily Dnd.

1. Numerous game books that I don't remember the titles of.

2. The original and advanced only.

3. Just the original rule books.

4. I'm mostly the DM but I do prefer to adventure with like-minded individuals.

5. Since I started in the early 90s, pretty much anything that came out. I first started with Sword & Sorcerers for the original Nintendo. Then moved onto PC RPG games from the Magic Candle, Bard's Tale, to all the gold box games, Fallout, Arena, and all the latest D&D games (Baldur's gate, etc)
