Do you have to use the so-called 'final save', or can you import your character early? I'm already L7 and have just gotten to BG. I would like to just go ahead and start SoA.

You can import from any point.
Their XP will increase AFAIK to 89000 if they have less.

However if you have TotSC and your exp is higher than 89k you will keep the extra (up to the TotSC cap)

Really? When I imported my Bard, who was 10th level, his level actually *lowered* to 8th.
