I've lost count now. I think this will be my fifth party.
And that's not counting the "try 'em before you buy 'em"
varieties
Last night I built one of those "try em" parties with
4 fighters and 2 priests. It was very cool, but I tell ya
what, I really *really* miss my Ranger even though I lean
heavily toward melee. I do like the priest for the buff/protections.
So this time 'round it's going to be:
3 fighters
2 priests
1 cool ranger.

crazy huh?

If you have a good knowledge about the game, what about tring an 'all-hybrid party', with all 6 types of hybrids? It's good fun, and you get a very strong melee/caster party after some time of development.
It's not recommended for newcomers though, because you'll have to do a quite a while without powerful magic.

Not crazy but lacking some pretty important spells like Elemental Shield. What's your reasoning behind two priests? One I can understand, though personally I found later on that my Priest in a ran/rog/psi/alc/pri/mag party was always active during combats but that may just have been my play style, but two seems a tad, er, exotic? KraGorn, I thought element shield was in the Alchemy spellbook,
as well as the Mage. So my Ranger could learn it, albeit later
in the game as it is a lvl 4 spell. Two priests = buff/protections in
half the rounds. Six Guardian Angels in three rounds, for example.

thanks

So why not two bishops instead of two priests? They'd be more versatile and can wear better armor than the priests, though they level a bit slower.

Yeah, your priests aren't gonna learn Missile Shield or Enchanted Blade, either. Good spells to have. I know, you can buy scrolls, but I like having someone who can do the spells.

I think you should have at last one "Mage" because of the "Elemental" shield and "Missile Shield"
It is WERY anoying to be hit by all this distance missiles that 80% percent of the monsters trow at you!

My first party in the Wizardry univers was with 4 hybrids (I coundt Bishop as well) and 2 pure: Bard and Priest. It's not that hard in fact. You just have to be used to make longer fights because the damage is much lower with them.

I am running the following party: Sammy, Lord, Valk, Ninja, Monk, and Bishop. And it is not hard at all! In fact I'm having a blast! This was a party imported from Wiz 7. I have completed all but the last mission for both the Trang and Umpani. Still wandering around the Water World areas. Group is at level 15.
