No Thompson, those are supposed to be there if you've ever done a Windows Update!

As far as your problem goes, is it actually spending those 5 minutes processing something (ie. is there hard drive activity), or is it just stalling and not doing anything?

A semi-serious answer to this question - i havent used win2000 much myself, and never done maintenance on it, but generaly id go through my startup files with a fine-tooth comb and remove anything which dosent belgong their. Thos pre-sp3 programs sound quite like what im talking about here. Also grab a virus scanner and spyware-remover, since those things can bring a computer to its knees.

@/)eathkiller: Unix may be able to do a lot of things, but ive never (yet) seen BG2 running on it.

It just stalls. There is no any harddrive activity during that time. Alos I have removed all the spyware from the computer and there's not that many programs or icons in the start menu.. Oh And I just put the swap -file size to 1 gig.

sounds like your swap file is your problem. There is NOTHING on the planet you will need a 1gig swap file for. As a general rule set your swap file at 2.5 times your available system ram. EX: if you have 128 megs of ram , set your swap file to 320megs.
