Is there anything worthwhile in the southern tunnels in the Underdark? It's filled with Beholders that are eating me up and I can't find anything except about 75 in gold. Can this area be avoided? Is there a second exit in there that leads somewhere? Seems to me there is only one way in and out.
Thanks

Yes you can bypass them if you want. All that you need from there is in the first room anyway (the elder orb eyestalk for the matron mother, equaliser part). There is assorted treasure (a good sling IIRC) but nothing particularly wonderful. And there is no other way out.

The Northeast corner has 5600gold but if you don't need the money the other goodies are not worth it; however, the XP are probably the most valuable. I've had success with two techniques. The first is just gang attack these guys with melee weapons and archers - give yourself some haste first. The second is really easy - just stand in front of them with the Cloak of Mirroring from Sahuagin City. The Gauths are goners and many of the Beholders spell reflect back on them and they drop too. For example, 'Beholder (casts) Flesh to Stone'....'Beholder - Petrification'. The great thing about the Cloak is it keeps on working if your character has been Held or is running around in panic mode!

The "Cloak of Mirroring" works great most of the time.

Right up until an Elder Orb casts "Imprisonment" on your butt.

Towards the middle of that area are summoning platforms that will bring forth unlimited elementals, one at a time: kill one, another pops up. It's great if you want the experience, and it's not a bug.

To stop it, you only need to cast freedom (which you can buy from the dwarves), freeing up a mage who needs to acquire some nice items from the elemental realms.

In re: to Fable,
If you have the Staff of the Air (or something like that) which requires air elems to save or die each hit, the air elemental platform then turns into a batting cage. You can level up pretty easily, though I stopped once I realized it was a never-ending elemental vending machine.

It is not unlimited( I wish it was). There are only 12-16 elementals before they stop spawning.

Dang, Dundee beat me to it. I thought there were only 10 or so Elementals in each one, but same difference. You can create some pretty impressive piles of bodies at the Earth and Fire gates.
