Ok, in comparing different armors, I have come up with a question. Is there any difference (other than purely armor class) among the various types of armors? For example, compare a good set of leather armor (AC +8) to a set of plate mail (AC +10). Now, there is obviously a difference between these armor classes, but there is also a HUGE difference in the weights of these armors. Is there anything other than JUST the AC difference that warrants using the extra-heavy plate mail/breastplate/chainmail/etc? I know that in some games, the heavier armors made it much more difficult for blows that hit you to actually penetrate (enemies would hit but seldom do damage). However, there is nothing in the description (other than the note on the armor weight) that says that the armors are different other than AC. Could someone please clear this up for me? (Having weight problems and not sure if it is worth it to use plate mail.)

hmm..if your characters carry too heavy things he cannnot fight during battles, so let him wear lighter things.
ps, try to maintain what he wears ( so that you have high AC ) and remove everything in his pesonal inventory into party inventory. |

As a characters encumberance goes up, his inititive [and often his number of attacks per round] and armor class drops: the important thing is to match the armor type to the strength of the character-- plate+3 may be fine on a liz fighter, but drag a kitty valk to a standstill.
Once you reach the Umpani, you can buy flack jackets and vests with very high AC/weight ratio. Oru [ 07-07-2002, 05:10 AM: Message edited by: Oruboris ] |

But better plate mail have better AC, and some resistances in addition. Leather armor doesn't have any resistances. Plate mail +3 has AC +13, and 30% fire and water resistance. And that Plate Mail of Divinity is _great_. |

Thanks, all!
It appears from your comments that I would be best off early in the game using leather armor, then graduate to plate as the nicer stuff becomes available. --Greystone |
