...what is it? My computer keeps crashing and giving me an error saying that a physical memory dump is being performed, and the error is due to me nvidia graphics drive or something. What should I do; I've been getting this error 1 or more times every day now.

Physical memory is either RAM or the hard drive, I think...maybe refers to both...hmm...might be saying you don't have enough in the way of system resources to run the card, maybe?

I have about 260,000 kb of Physical Memory (K). I have 256 MB of RAM and I'm on a Windows XP. I have 2.4 Ghz and a Pentium 4 processor.

Lord,
Is it a Windows error (blue screen?), or something else? When does it happen (gaming, on startup, &c.)? Does restarting clear it (I'm assuming yes...)? Knowing these things, and what "nvidia graphics drive" you have, will help. Good Luck |

Physical memory is RAM.
If you only have 256MB, make sure your Graphics Apperture Size in the BIOS is set to 64MB.

I have it on:
64MB DDR NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 420 Is that the right thing? I dunno, I'm terrible with computers. It's a blue screen error. Will updating my RAM fix the prob?

It means physical memory as opposed to virtual memory. As people said, physical memory is your RAM and virtual memory is the swap space created on your hard disk for use when the RAM is full.

I don't think it's telling you there's anything wrong with your physical memory (your RAM). It's telling you the nvidia driver had a problem. The "physical memory dump" is a way for a technician to view exactly what was stored in RAM at the time of the error. Do you have the most current video driver?

Okay, every video card uses a portion of system memory to store textures, called the AGP Apperture (sp?)
Now, since you're only running 256MB with XP, XP will use about 200MB of that right off the bat, leaving you with less than 64MB. Your AGP apperture size is set in the BIOS, usually default is 64 or 128MB. If you don't have enough physical memory left (RAM) after Windows XP has loaded, and the video card attempts to write to memory that is already in use, you'll end up with a crash. You really need to run at least 512MB with Windows XP for stability. Intrepid, I would leave it at 64MB unless your video card has less than 64MB on board. There has been a lot of discussion on the correct settings for this, but I've personally tested this setting with a 64MB, 128MB and 256MB video card and seen no benefits to changing from the default 64MB. With 256MB you might want to try going to 32MB, it might speed things up a tad. If you do, let me know how it turns out.
