I was reading a Dutch newspaper today and saw a photo on the second page of a Chinese dude who was trying to jump the Great Wall with his mountain bike. It said that he was jumping towards his death (in other words: he didn't survive it).. I mean: why would you want to risk your life doing such a thing? Can somebody please explain it to me?

Simple, Greed. his plan was to jump the wall, get famous, make money from comercials, get rich...

Kind of like what most celebrities do.... although most have a better plan than this guy

But I mean, the Great Wall is friggin high! I can't believe that there was a chance that he would make it. I for one thing wouldn't even think about doing. I care for my life, and wasting it like that is just.. selfish I'd say. He probably has relatives, maybe even a wife and some kids, who were left behind because he needed to do a stupid stunt.

"Because it was there"

"Because we had the power to do so"

Typical quotes associated with humanity. He just wanted to.

Good on 'im

As an avid mountain biker/snowboarder I can only imagine the rush that he would've got from dropping the wall, the Great Wall no less!

Extreme atheletes rarely pull stunts like this for the money, it all comes down to pushing themselves to the limit, and crossing it just to see if they can.
If you're not hurting, you're not going hard enough.

EDIT: Just had to add this one...

Doesn't it just make you wanna grab your board, sell some assets and move to the snow?
