I guess your right. During my work, it happened that my services made people happy, and they sometimes asked me in their homes, and offered me coffee, lemonade, beer (which i can't accept during the job unfortunately) or sometimes even food.

That doesn't mean i would be doing what i do if it wasn't for a decent salary though. The kindness of those people doesn't pay my rent. It does however give you a feeling of satisfaction, knowing that what you did made people happy.

I work for my bro, who has a cleaningcompany. We do all kinds of things, like officecleaning, grafitiremovals, window washing, you name it. If it's dirty, we'll clean it up.

What i was talking about is when you walk up a ladder, clean someone's window that's completely covered in bird droppings, and too far out of reach to do it themselves, that brings a smile on some people's faces. Most people take it for granted, but some show you real appreciation. It's always nice when something like that happens. It shows that the world is not yet completely icecold.

There is nothing to hunt or to gather where i live, and i'm sure it isn't any different in NYC. So in my case money IS the only thing that puts food on the table, what else could i do besides making money for a living ? I do indeed put food on my table myself, but only because i work for it.
That's why it pays to leave the city for a while and learn how to do these things, so that you are not totally dependant on 'civilisation' and it's mechanisms for survival. When you don't need money, a house, a car and a supermarket to get by, YOU call the shots on how you live.
Big cities are artifical, most of them rely totally on resources brought in from other places (water, electricity, food etc). Cut off the infrastructure, watch the cities crumble. Allowing yourself to become a totally dependant citydweller is to strip away the human intuitive free spirit that has kept our species alive through droughts, ice ages, floods and volcanic cataclysms throughout the ages.

Settled 'Civilisation' has been around for about 10,000 years, yet humans have seemingly existed in their present form for at least 200,000 years (if mitochondrial DNA is anything to go by). So people have only been farming and settling for only about 5% of their current 'lifespan'. Settling is a very new concept, and it need not be the utter restriction of freedom that many people assume it to be. Live free buddy, roam the world, that's what your two legs and upright spine are there for

Wow, I just realised how I've gotten, sorry guys.

Hey since I made the thread you can go off-topic all you want if its up to me. Lots of food for thought comes from one thing leading to another and so forth.

Although I do remind everyone this is a hypothetical question for us, so dont judge too harshly if someone says they will wipe humanity off a whole contintent for 25 million bucks. It is a hypothetical question after all, so expect hypothetical, al beit, unrealistic but sometimes humorous answers.

If I were a poor Iraqui tribeman I would take the money and move to a society that doesn't box me into customs that would allow for me to shelter alledged evil from justice. Thats what I would do when I imagine walking in those shoes.
