I'm allways very hesitant of using potions .. even during batlles, I allways have the urge to save 'em up for an emergency.
Resulting in 6 full potion bags and a couple a stacks more in 2 bags of holding... i probably have around 200 - 300 potions of greater healing and another 200 - 300 potions of healing. Nice to know the enemy can hit you quite a lot

potions during battle are suicide for wizards

if you need to use a potion of extra healing, your already almost dead
since the enemy can hit you at this time, you want to prevent them from being able to do that
therefore you need to cast prot spells
using a potion takes up a whole round, thats six seconds for a spellcaster
your dead before you can make another move

not necessarily.. as you can always drink a potion and run around for the next round to come...

and as a mage or sorc.. why are you standing in the middle of the battle and take all the damage?

when you enter the room above the room were you meet aerie, you get attacked by them.
them = werewolfs.

They attack you yes. But they dont do any dammage to you unless you attack them back. Remember the person who talks to you before you go up? She says there are illusions and to only attack things that hurt you first.

People, refer to my earlier post regarding the Werewolves. They do not hurt you, but they can still DISRUPT your spellcasting which will interfere with your trying to kill the Shadows. Melf's Minute Meteors will only take you so far before you run out of them( try recasting it with 4 Werewolves hitting on you). Besides... how hard is it to cast Stoneskin and Mirror Image? thats not always the case. sure, if youre in the underdark facing drow warparties you can keep your distance, but here is an example: I just finished windspear hills with the solo sorcerer lvl 17. when you reached the end of firkraags maze and take the sword and shield from the ground and walk back into that narrow hall/room, you get ambushed by that woman and her goons. try running around in there! and as fas as my defences go: i didnt rest or set anything up, cuz i didnt expected them. so before I had my mojo up and running i got pounded a couple of times. still, i didnt take a potion, cuz that would have been suicide

And further down the road, i faced firkraag. the start went pretty well, but suddenly he yelled "Time to die, manling!" and charged at me. i got whacked two times and was halfway dead. still didnt use potions ...

Found another good one
Wizard Slayer -> Thief (only in ToB for use any item)

Good link: http://www.gamebanshee.com/baldursga...layerthief.php

You get all the advantages of a regular fighter/thief with 15% magic resistance and 10% cumulative spell failure.

I'm gonna try this out tonight.

I haven't considered the triple class before (because of the slow level progression you point out)...at your suggestion, I just began a game with Fighter/Mage/Thief. Having only completed the circus quest, I'm at 8/9/9. To be fair, I rolled some pretty awesome stats; I always give myself five minutes to roll stats, with the base being 84 (14s in everything, and then I fiddle). Usually I settle for 87, but I got lucky and rolled 93. After fiddling, that became
17 STR
18 DEX
18 CON
18 INT
18 WIS
4 CHR

Charisma is a joke, as the Circus quest gives you the Ring of 18 CHR. Plus, mages have 'friends.'

Things to remember when playing a thief or mage class: remove traps, unlock everything, and memorize scrolls. Erase spells and then rewrite them. Big fat XPs there.

I think your triple class rocks; a Fighter/Mage/Cleric would be pretty good too (self-healing, turning undead, magic defense) but then you couldn't use a bow. Personally I love bows; the Tesheran 3/round attacks is the best bow in the game IMO.

You should be able to stomp big butt in short order. Versatility rules this game, very good assessment.
I'm thinking of soloing a Fighter/Mage/Thief all the way through from BG1 to ToB. With all the stat tomes from BG1 that must be one powerful character. Lifting the XP cap would make it utterly sick. A Fighter/Mage/Cleric would be even cooler (3 Tomes of Wis + Tome of Int = INSANE spellcaster), but I don't think you could get through TotSC without disarm traps. Has anyone tried going all the way through with either of these?
