Question Mark

Having read the posts in reference to Drizzt: I think that being able to kill Drizzt is a bug. This bug has been dealt with - to some extent - in BG2. If Drizzt or any of his pals get killed - you cant keep their items.

The meeting of Drizzt (in my opinion) was only put in there as a neat random encounter for those who are fans of his books. I did kill him once after several attempts and having tailored a party solely to go after him. It was a hollow victory. The exp was not all that grand, and you can only use one sword at a time in BG1.If someone must have his chain - just use a hes editor and give it to your character.

I have always questioned why someone would want to consistantly be/play an evil character. The few people I know personally who play "anti paladins" and other evil characters are a pretty pathetic lot in real life. What motivates a person to WANT to kill inocent bystanders in a game? Perhaps it is similar to the motivation of a person who tortures animals in real life.

Are you one of those persons that believe that actors who plays evil roles in movies in fact also are evil in their real life?

It is much harder (and more challanging) to play a character, that would NOT act like yourself would have done in a given situation. This is in fact the essence in role playing, if you were to ask me.

Just to point out that you are given the option to declare to Drizzt in BG2 that you have killed him before. What this means is that the game designers did mean for Drizzt to be killable in BG1. In fact, you can still kill him in BG2.

The only real deciding factor on whether you should kill Drizzt in BG1 is a roleplaying one. Evil characters should have no qualms using insidious methods to ambush Drizzt and loot his weapons, while good characters will aid Drizzt and exchange information before bidding each other farewell.

This is just a general guideline of course, since different people, different strokes.

Question Mark

No I'm not a vegetarian.

I think acting is different unless the actor seeks out ONLY evil roles. If they truely only seek out evil roles, then yes, I think they have a problem. I dont pretend to know every person that ever played an evil character in a rpg -but I repeat that those that I know that are repeatedly drawn to such things lead pretty sad lives.

Dundee: an interesting point. Has anyone ever got to speak to the developers on the subject. Scripting the encounter in bg 2 to cover the murder of Drizzt could be as you presume - or simpley a way to cover up a mistake in Bg1. The famous incident dealing with Lord British comes to mind.

Personally I dont think its hard enough to play as a evil character - rep means all most nothing. I have never been a P&P D&D player , but my understanding is that the lower the rep, the worse the alignment, the harder it is to deal with merchants and the public at large. I dont see this in either game. I did however see it in "Darklands", but now I am really dating myself huh?

Well, try playing the game with reputation at minimum. You'll find out what I imply soon after entering a new area...
Merchants will not sell to you neither.

You should not be able to kill Drizzt. He's a nice little drow who never hurt anybody inportant.
A few gnolls, but hey! Plenty more fish in the sea.......
Birds in the trees......
Gnolls in the forests......
Kobolds to kill...... mmmmmm...... kill....
*ahem*
Sorry. Anyway, you should not be able to kill him. If you do, then you have destoryed a legend, and Shame On You, Sir!

PS. Do not kill Drizzt. I mean it. If you do, the world will become overrun with evil and Dwarves, and we don't want that.

Madjim:
"but so then you go to a temple buy your way up to a better rep. "

But Vedran specifically suggested playing with Rep=1. An evil character should only tithe if he has a reason to, and a character that keeps Rep=1 would obviously have no reason to. There's a difference between powerplaying evil and roleplaying evil. Roleplaying evil, because of the penalties, should make the game more difficult. That was the point.

As Drizzt himself said:
"Don't poke Drizzt."
I can only assume he was telling you not to kill him.
